Hi Todd!

She sure is a beauty! If I were even close to making a purchase, which I'm not, I'd do a proper audition. I would bring my Oppo SA-CD player, my own IC's and speaker cables and music I'm intimately familiar with. They already had it kooked up with a pair of Totem Sttaf's, so I wouldn't have to bring those (phew). And although I can't do anything about the room acoustics there, I think doing this would give me a real good feel for what it can do, and whether or not I liked it.

So John wants to get into separates, I don't know much about them (the Rotels are my 1st foray into the genre). However I see you are looking at some modern tubes - have you considered a vintage tube set up - have you seen the vintage Mac set up back up on Canuck. I did say I don't know much about separates but if I had $1200 right now I think I would jump on that and sell my vintage Marantz. That Mac set up looks to be in pristine shape

John,

If you have any interest in movies or multi-channel music, don't get a two-channel pre-amp. Because your budget is so limited, look into a multi-channel pre/pro that can decode HD sound and is reasonably good for two-channel music. You should be able to find a great pre/pro from the list I gave you. If money is really tight, there are some receivers that do a very good job of serving as a preamp. Ideally, it is best to have two separate rooms and have the best equipment in each room, but we have to be realistic and compromise.
HT Room: Panasonic PT-AE8000, Epson 1080UB Proj., Mitsubishi 65" Diamond Series HD TV, Yamaha-RX-A3010 Rec., CinePro 6-Ch. Amp. (350 W/Ch, 8 Ohm), Proton D1200 Amp., Behringer EP4000 & EPX3000 Amps., Oppo BDP-83, Sony BDP-S790, Audio Technica Tuntable, Mitsubishi S-VHS, 2 Def. Tech. Super Towers w 15" subs, 1 Def. Tech. Center & 1 Martin-Logan Center, 2 Def. Tech. Two-Channel Room: XiangSheng Tube Preamp., Carver TFM-45 Amp. (375 W/Ch), Behringer EPX4000 Amp., Onkyo CD player, Denon Turntable, Yamaha Tuner, 2 Vintage Polk RTA-15TL Speakers, 2 LCY 100 Super Tweeters, 2 DIY Folded Horn Super Towers with 15" Sub., 1 Modified AA HD-SUB12

I wish you Amazing Success in finding something along this components line to make a part of your 2 channel system.

And I will have to do a little research on the Xindak line. This is an Entirely New Brand to me.

But Thanks for Posting the Pic.I still cant get over the Look of that Integrated Amp.Just simply Stunning.
Xindak actually has some nice hybrids and they have pretty good ICs and Damper shackes. Here is the link to them http://www.xindak.co.uk/page005.html. Have a feeling i would get flamed for linking that but what the hell.

Hello John,

Hey you will find a number of manufacturers names on this thread who make pre-amps with a home theater bypass. Go by brand rather than model number because I'm sure new models have replaced the ones posted. This is not a complete list either & I'm sure I know of more..............

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=94148

Hope you find what you are looking for !!! I've heard mixed reviews about the pre-amp you listened to. I'll have more time tomorrow & will send you a link that you might want to read & keep in mind next time round with that integrated. I have no doubt that with patience and the willingness to research, you will find the kind of pre-amp you are after. Hate to see you settle on this one because I know it's possible and so worth it to give it a little bit of time !!! I might catch a little heat over this but........... DON'T SETTLE !!! Compromise may be necessary, but there is a lot of good stuff out there. Don't give in

I would agree not to settle if you could wait to add more to the budget then pre/pro power amp might be possible. But unless John is willing to buy used gear options would be pretty limited.

Well that is certainly the Best Way to go about things.Especially if you want either or both of your systems to be more then just Average.

I am just fortunate I had some Rotel 2-Channel Seperates from my First Real Home Theater. And they still work as well as the day I purchased them new.

Yea i used to own Rotels as well and i would say that SS power amps could last you 20-30 years at times. That is probably one reason why im on the fence going tubes for the 2 channel gear as i am not that well versed on Valves and the warranty on them is short.

Well my Rotel Amp and Pre Amp are both pushing 15 years old.And surprisingly they are still running smooth and trouble Free.

That is one reason why I would like to continue with Rotel or Adcom Components.
But due to financial reasons Emotiva has Really Caught my Attention.

I saw this setup as well, and if it weren't for the fact this is a 2010 project (budget spoken for for 2009) I'd certainly seriously look into it. After all, it's McIntosh!

I'm still kinda struggling with this whole thing BD, and haven't made up my mind as to the direction I want to go. There is a very small possibility that I will be able to separate out a 2-channel setup from a HT setup with some creative room re-arranging. If this can be achieved, then I will do so. My primary goal is to attain the best possible 2-channel sound I can get for the budget I have. If I can't do this, then your suggestion (like others) to get a multi-channel pre-amp with HT bypass is a very good route to go.

They seem to have a decent rep and their V15 Integrated was actually reviewed quite favourably. However, they are only one company I'm considering and I will be looking into many others also.

I rarely settle Andrew, but given my budget I may have to make some decisions that could make it seem like I am. In the end I know I will have made the right decision, because I usually choose my components very carefully. I'm still some time away from making a final choice.

I have decided that used gear is now an option, and I have been looking at CanuckAudioMart and Audiogon daily to see what is out there.

I did say that as my choice would be to buy new, but after having received advise to not be afraid of used components, I am now most definitely considering that possibility.

--------------------------------------

Please note, just because I posted the pic of the Xindak V30, does NOT mean I have decided on it. Far from it. My dealer carries this line and from the brief moments I listened to it I liked what I heard.

Thanks again for all of your replies!

I can certainly sympathize with you on that score Todd! My budget is what it is and it's unlikely to grow, unless I get lucky somehow.

Hi John,My Friend. I hope Your Weekend is Off to A Wonderful Start .

I was curious if you could recommend some TurnTable Lines and companies that I could look at.It would have to be something closer to the bottom of the price range then the High-End Model, for it to be affordable.

But I also want to stay away from the Cheap Turntables with the USB Ports and Cables. And with all the issues on my Dad's old and inexpensive TurnTable I figure I may as well put that money towards something new.

And you know mw.It can be a simple design as long as it offers good performance. And if I can get a Noticeable Difference in TT's by spending an Extra $25 or so,then I would most certainly consider it.

So whenever you may have sometime just let me know.
Thanks for the Help and Information,as always,John.

Hi Todd!

I posted something in Mike's thread I believe about a question you had regarding a Pioneer TT. I, of course, would most definitely help you out with any questions you had regarding TT's and the like. For a few dollars, and depending on the condition of said TT, you may well be able to bring it to a more than acceptable level of performance, at nominal cost.

Thanks John.I certainly appreciate the help and the offer of help .

I would really Love to get a Nice Turntable as well as a SACD Player.
So I will spend some time looking over prices and see which direction would be the best to make at the Present Time.

And of course Money will be a Large Factor.
I was looking at the Needle Doctor's Site and was simply floored by the Prices I saw of the "Budget Turntables".

So I know If I Purchased new a SACD Player would be the Least Expensive Route.
So I will look up my Father's Turntable and see what can be done and at for what Price.

The TT is a Pioneer PL-202AZ.
