Best Blu-ray release to date? - Blu-ray Forum

okay so this is purely subjective, but in your opinion, what are the best blu-rays overall (pq/aq/extras)? releases where you would pay a little more than the listed market price for them if it came down it? (i'm starting this for those of us bd newbies who are looking to expand our meager collections and wondering what releases are too jaw droppingly awesome to ignore) for me, the pirates discs are holistically epic. what say you?

The Patriot was pretty amazing even though the extras were the same as the DVD version. But, the huge battles and fighting looked amazing! I've seen it for 20 bucks at Wal-Mart, but I'd have paid 30 for it.

I think we've had other threads like this, but I'll again vote for Apocalypto. It should at least win biggest upside surprise IMO.

I'd have to say both of the pirates movies are tied for the best. I mean, they both have near/ if not perfect PQ and SQ and they have way more extras than any other BD I've seen... yep, hands down POTC 1 and 2.

It's a region A release, but not region coded. Anyway, as spectacular as some of the footage looks, since it is a bit starved VC1 port from HD-DVD (and it does show on heavy scenes) I cannot vote for PE.

From the ones I've seen so far I would vote for POTC: DMC

i dont think i would have paid 30 for it, but then again i havent paid over 25 dollars for any of mine. It was good i would recommend it for sure.

Just watched The Patriot... fantastic quality. A few scenes were so-so but over all very impressed. Wish they'd do that with Braveheart.

Been too broke to buy anything lately... my best owned BD is The Wild.

Nine Inch Nails: Beside You In Time

Planet Earth

I wasn't so keen on either Pirates BD. Thought they were ok. But nothing near as great as the above two.

The Fifth Element is by far the worst one I have seen. Pretty cool that they are cleaning it up for a rerelease. Hope the new one comes out much better.
