Looking into buying a new LED tv in the next coming months Whats the better choice when it comes down to these 2 types of the led lighting techniques...

I've never heard of any of these tvs. Where did you see these?

Their not actually the names of the tv its just the different Techniques that sharp and samsung uses...Samsung uses LEDs around the edges of the tv to light the image while Sharp Uses a full array of LED around the whole entire screen to light the image..

I hear so highly of Samsungs when it comes to LED's but i cant see The Sammy's having better blacks when it usies Edge lighting..... Wouldnt the middle of the screen suffer and doesnt it rule out Local Dimming...

Seems like if i get the Samsung i'll be paying for thickness and not PQ

Both don't use local dimming. I can only speak for the samsung as i own one. I love it, once they are calibrated correctly you dont notice the black out thing. i got the 40inch b6000. Couldnt be happier for 1.2k

Im leaning towards the Sharp for the full array and also the fact that i have no plans what so ever on putting this TV on a wall so thickness is not a issue with me and its about 700 bucks less for a 52inch Compared to Samsungs 55inch at 2.5k

The new Samsung 8500 series will be local dimming and only adds .4 inches to the depth of the edge lit LED sets. The only draw back is a 55" set will be $4500.00. I guess I'll have to wait until Christmas 2010 when they will be $1900.00

From what it sounds like the technology is comparable to each other in terms of quality. Both look like nice sets, just comes down to your personal taste as always. Also if you shop around the prices are quite comparable. Samsung is cheaper at some places while sharp is cheaper at others.
