Default Wizard of Oz Blu or DVD: which will sell better in first week?

Being that The Wizard of Oz is a catalog title and has been on DVD for some time, do you think the 70th anniversary edition will sell better the first week on Blu or DVD (both formats are having the special edition)? This can take in the UCEs, Target special editions, wherever else they release it in.

1. Blu-ray will sell more the first week
2. DVD will sell more the first week.

I actually don't think the sales will be that good but the blu-ray will out-sell the DVD.

DVD will easily sell more, as a lot of people will buy it even if they own the original DVD.

True, but they will be selling a lot of blu-rays of this title as well (especially the cheaper one at Target). Still, more people have DVD players at this current time.

I think there will be a lot of sales...especially after the 70th anniversary screening in over 400 theaters (many sold out) across the country last night. They could go to the DVD edition, but of the ones who went last night hearing "high definition" for the theatre presentation may influence them to buy the Blu set.

DVD. Lots more potential customers. Not to mention the huge price difference. The standard dvd will be $16.99. BD's "cheap" option is $34.99 at Target, or $50+ for the deluxe set at BB and Amazon.

Has there been a time where a new release catalog title had more sales on BD? I can't think of any.

I think the Blu-Ray will sell more as far as the special box set goes. Most people who wanted Wizard of OZ on DVD got it four years ago. That was a very good dvd set. So those people probably won't be looking to upgrade.

Now as for us Blu-Ray people it's first day buy for many of us.

Yeah, but you gotta remember, A LOT of people got married and had kids since the last DVD release (and even more since the original DVD release). I know of at least 3 couples buying the new DVD for their children and families.

So while many people might already own this, not everyone does. And for now, more people have DVD capabilities than blu-ray.

I still think it will sell well on blu, but I bet it moves a lot of DVD copies as well.

Well the way the transfer looked when I saw it recently projected digitally on a huge screen, any fan of this movie would be shortcutting themselves if they bought it on DVD. Mastered direct to digital from the original negatives. Baby.

Can't believe the amount of people who think the BD will outsell the DVD... Are you guys forgetting there's a single disc DVD for $16.99?...
"The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes. The Oilers moved to Tennessee were there is no oil. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City where they don't allow music. The Oakland Raiders moved to L.A. and then back to Oakland; no one in Los Angeles seemed to notice. Continued expansion diluted the talent pool, forcing owners to recruit heavily from prisons, mental institutions, and Texas."

Sure. One that happened recently was Braveheart and Galdiator. Had like 96/97 percent marketshare for BD on its first week.

But I think this probably happens most in cases where a BD is released and no DVD is re-released on the same day. I guess it's not 100% fair to compare an old DVD release to a new BD release.
I need to stop buying so many movies and not getting around to watching them.

Yes, I was referring to when a new DVD catalog title debuts the same day as the BD.

My personal feeling is that dvd will sell more, because, believe it or not, there are still people out there that don't know what BD is.

DVD will do better but in the long run probably the blu-ray. Like someone mentioned before...they had a release In '05, I think. So most people won't upgrade. However, if they're got a blu-ray player then it's worth it to upgrade now. I actually don't have this on any format so I'm looking forward to it. It's about time I had it in my collection.
