Worth $27.99?
No way. Of course, I wouldn't pay $27.99 for any movie. I saw it in theaters, it was average. Not very great, not terrible. I'd recommend renting it before buying.

Looking at your collection, I would say you will probably like this movie. Though, as Diesel pointed out, the price is somewhat high for a blind buy ... or even a buy from those who really enjoyed it; I did but I won't buy it until the price is half that.

there are so many of these 'should i blind buy' threads... everyones taste is different, why would you take someone elses advice instead of simply renting it, or even just download the movie trailer and make your own call?!

Because he'd like to hear the popular opinion. Sometimes I see a trailer for a movie and when I see it, I'm severely disappointed. It's better to get the popular opinion from people with some liability. That's why and maybe he's in the mood to buy a movie he does not own?

If you can get it for $20 then go for it. I thought it was a fun flick. If you liked Crank 1 & 2 then you should like Gamer as it's from the same guys.

Loved it.The photograpy is awesome i think, many nice close ups just as Luc Besson does. And fantastic editing in the action (gaming)scenes.Whish there could be more of them.Butler is perfect for the role.

I'd think it has more to do with how you feel about Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall. I didn't care for Crank 2 (at least the latter half of it) and thought Crank was just alright. I saw this because after watching Dexter I'm a big fan of Michael C. Hall and was happy to see Butler return to the action genre after chick flick crap like The Ugly Truth. Butler was good in this but Michael C. Hall was just great.

Personally, i've learned from my blind buy experiences. After purchasing Crank 2 without seeing it first, i've sworn to myself to NEVER purchase a movie i haven't seen first. It's a recession man, redbox it for $1 and find out if you like it first. Way better option than spending $20-25 day of release and finding out its a steaming pile of crap!
