Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that the next two titles in their Sapphire Series Blu-ray releases will be individual releases of 'The Godfather: Part II - Sapphire Series'. Original only available as part of the 'The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration', the discs will be identical to those original releases.

Notably missing from the announcement is individual releases for 'The Godfather: Part III' and the fourth disc from the set which features a ton of bonus material. Many collectors were waiting for individual releases due to the inclusion of 'The Godfather: Part III' in the original set, which is generally seen as the weakest of the three films.

Both 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather: Part II' Sapphire Series Blu-ray individual releases will be released on February 2nd.

I own the boxset, but the individual releases are great. I am all for giving the customer choices.

Too bad these are region A locked, because Godfather II disc (as most of the region B ones) is broken, and do not play properly

my favourite movie of the 3!

Who said? Gump is not region locked and its a Sapphire release

The original set is region free as well

Same here, but I only paid $37 for the set during the deepdiscount sale so thats not bad.

The Sapphire Series tagline is The Best Picture in The The Best Picture:

The Godfather and The Godfather Part II both won Best Picture Academy Awards. The Godfather Part II also was the first sequel to take that honor home.

The Godfather Part III did not win any Academy Awards and was only nominated in several catagories.

As for why it seems like they are being lazy?

Paramount, along with Warner, are having an Academy Awards promotion coming starting on February 2nd. Several titles from Paramount and Warner are being re-released with special Academy Award gold slipcovers boasting about the award or awards the film won.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Top Gun, Hustle & Flow, There Will Be Blood, Ghost, The Duchess, and The Untouchables are from Paramount.

From Warner's side comes Casablanca and Amadeus.

I would have rather had a movie that hasn't been released on blu yet...Such as Titanic. I guess it's good for those who never bought the boxset.

Why do a rehash of a previously-released title like this for the Sapphire Series? Why not give us Apocalypse Now, Coppola's OTHER masterpiece, which is long overdue for a Blu release?

They should have just given us the option to buy the movies separately OR in the box set to begin with.

Can someone name all the Paramount titles that have won the Oscar for best picture?? i guess that will shed some light on upcoming Saphire releases.

Does anyone know where I can get this version WITH the slipcover?

I own all the other Slipcovers but I can't find this one

Barnes 'N Noble doesn't have it, Best Buy doesn't have it, and I ordered it from Walmart Online along with American Beauty, but American Beauty had the Slipcover and The Godfather, Part II didn't.

I'm hesitant on ordering it from Amazon. I've been messaging sellers but all they say is "it's fulfilled by Amazon so we don't know what it is."
