Default Spirited Away on Snow White Blu-ray

Please forgive me if this might be old, I did use the search function and didn't find this mentioned anywhere.

Anyway, has anyone sat down and watched all of the 2nd discs special features specifially John Ratzenberger's part (the guy that does voices in pixar movies)

There is a small part that he mentions about disney releasing spirited away in the west and they show footage of it and I can definately tell that its 1080p on a 16:9 aspect ratio. All I can say is that it looked fantastic, it was crisp and clean. The rumors that I have been reading are saying that there are some bluray animes coming out that are upscales and studio ghibli movies were mentioned. This small amount of footage has offically stopped my purchasing of the DVDs (only have spirited away and Laputa: Castle in the Sky)

I wish I could get a screenshot, its on the "2000s" part of the history of disney doco

EDIT: It looks like its actually 2.0:1 aspect ratio like the DVD not 16:9.

Any hint as to when we will see Spirited Away or any Hayao Myazaki film?

Disney is releasing 'Ponyo' to Blu-Ray on March 2nd. They announced that they would do Special Editions of 'My Neighbor Totoro,' 'Castle in the Sky,' and 'Kiki's Delivery Service' on the same day on DVD, but there hasn't been any news as to whether those films will be on Blu-Ray as well. I'm hoping that they will be.

Disney likes to release several Ghibli films at the same time. If I'm not mistaken, 'Tales from Earthsea' is coming to theaters in Summer 2010, so maybe Disney will release some more films on Blu-Ray then to help promote it, and hopefully 'Spirited Away' will be one of them.
I'm currently watching every Disney film ever made and reviewing them. You can follow along on my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.

Those screens of Sen to Chihiro look amazing! If Disney couples this picture quality to a quality lossless 5.1 or 7.1 Japanese audio track, then I'll buy this blu on release day!

I have the Japanese release DVD and it's one of my favorite. This anime feature definitely deserves a nice HD upgrade.

Also hoping for good releases (PQ and AQ) of Majo no takkyuubin and tonari no Totoro (which is my wife's favorite Ghibli feature, as it reminds her of her childhood)

I'm also hoping we'll see another Ghibli film along with Ponyo on Blu-ray. If it does happen it will probably be either Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle since those are from digital sources and will look the best.

The older films all have HD transfers, however many of them were done years ago on (by now at least) antiquated equipment, and if the recent Joe Hisaishi Concert is any indication will not look great on Blu-ray unless they decide to re-do them.

I don't know. I think the best way to go about it (I'm no expert though), would be to go back to the original master and digitally rescan frame per frame. Afterwards, some cleaning up can be done digitally.

I've seen an interview on TV while I was in Japan this October where a director expressed his positive feelings about an old anime of his that got treated that way for broadcast on HDTV.

I think any Ghibli blu release requires a release in Japan first. That'd be my guess, anyway. Ponyo is out in Japan in December-- I'm guessing the US version is delayed because the Japanese wanted it that way (otherwise too much reverse imports). There's no way we'll get a blu for a Ghibli film released here before Japan. Simultaneous, maybe, but doubtful. So keep your fingers crossed for Japan to announce some Ghibli blus.

Oh man, is it finally coming? Woohoo! I'm a fan of this one. The more Ghibli we get here, the better chances we see Blu's of the rest. I got my fingers crossed on all of these as well.

Sadly, Ponyo is the ONE title of theirs I dont want! Just my luck. :P

I would buy Spirited Away, Earthsea, Mononoke, Totoro, and Howl's MC in a heartbeat!
