So HAMP,

Why are you posting this article in your thread? I know you were the victim of a home invasion, but I don't get why you would post such a disheartening article. Do you think the man was righteous in killing the two perps?!

Considering I have a deftech sub and considering eD & svs subs, Zippo's knowledge/insight was welcomed indeed.

She loves the TV and at first when I told her I gotten her something for christmas she didn't seem that happy, because she didn't get me anything.

I told her that was the agreement, but I told her this gift(didn't tell what it was yet) had her name all over it and it was meant for her.

Well to make a long story short, I took it over and she helped me connect it. We worked together at it and I could see and feel the happiness she was getting from this and it made me feel great.

She is using it as a combination TV and PC monitor and I connected an HTiB to the setup for now.
Below is my input to your post (above) to Fors:

Quote:
Hello HAMP.

I know your last post was to Fors, about the TV for the fiance. But I have to tell you, if you would have followed Lou's advice, the element of surprise would have been an after thought! And the joy you experienced when the both of you hooked up the TV would most likely not have happened. Granted, Lou's advice is noble, no doubt, but in this case, a buzz-killer! (Yeah Lou, I said it....a Buzz Killer!) (just being facetious)

If you want to surprise her, then surprise her! When it's all about her, and you present it that way, it's a win-win! Look, in my situation, my wife was enamoured with the new Sony-Ericsson C950 8MP camera phone! Being that it was a tight financially, we agreed to concentrate on making sure the girls had a big Christmas. Nothing big for either one of us. If I would have talked to her about getting that phone, she would have been totally against it, a straight veto! along with her giving every excuse for why I should not not get it for her. When she opened the package and saw the phone, she dove over the presents to give me hugs and kisses. We programmed the phone, transferred files from her old Sony-Ericsson W810 and we lived happily ever after!

Moral of the story,..... You experienced that when connecting the TV. Her happiness is what's most important!
And the dual purpose, using it also as a PC monitor, genius!

Congrats!

Well to me both gave equal advice and that’s what these forums are for, to ask and hopefully learn from others.

When we get this advice, we tend to lean more towards the one we feel is correct and to be honest I felt more like Lou’s was correct and was a little nervous of what I did.

But,

Like I said, it’s a forum and we will get advice from all forms of other people lives and in this situation Fors was correct or close to being correct. I honestly was hoping to have it setup to be a big surprise for her when she walked in the door.

But,

I learned another lesson from it which is something I should have already known and that is involve her more with everything I do, because I know how much she loves me (and I love her just as much). We talk about the home theater gear and she is not blindly involved, she even talks about a projector more then I do. It's a new hobby for me and it looks like she will be involved with it.

She has been really happy about this, so happy, that I got a huge dinner today, I mean it was like Thanksgiving again. I wasn’t expecting it, but dude, I am stuffed…. lol

Everyone give great advice, it’s just how you use this wonderful information.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND EVERYONE. If I missed anyone… Please forgive, we have a lot of friends on this site and it’s not on purpose to forget them.

Geez Man, you make me feel like I'm Snidely Whiplash!

I concur, you should share your decision making with the significant other, especially on big ticket purchases. But we are talking a surprise aren't we?!
And everyone's situation is different. Anyway, I'm glad that the surprise was a success.

Glad to hear that I was wrong... This time.

Seriously, though. Glad she loved it and that she loves being involved in your hobby. Nothing better than that! My wife could care less about the details. She only care what it costs and how it will look in the room. I'm still working on the dedicated amps sitting outside the cabinet between the speakers. She said "okay" tentatively. She wants me to describe more how it will look. I may have to do some photoshopping for her.

She put a smile on my face yesterday. I was viewing my gallery and some asked did I win the lottery and she responded quickly with "If You had won the lottery, we would have B&W's"
