After watching both versions of all these films several times I've come to the following conclusions:

For Alien, definitely the theatrical version for me.

For Aliens, I seem to go back and forth with which version I prefer. For the most part I like the additions from the extended cut. (such as Ripley learning about her family) However, others sequences I do not. The scene at Hadley's Hope with everyone working and Newts family doesn't do it for me. I feel it works much better when we get to see Hadley's Hope for the first time when Ripley and the Marines do as shown in the theatrical version.

For Alien 3, definitely the extended/assembly cut. This made me like the movie so much more than when I had seen it in the past.
The additional scenes/sequences added so much to it, imo.
[Show spoiler]For example, the ending where Ripley simply falls into the steel works so much better for me. I did not like how in the theatrical the alien pops out just as she is falling. Seems to make her sacrifice way less meaningful.

However, I prefer the sequence from the theatrical version
[Show spoiler]with the alien bursting from the dog (as opposed to the the ox) I feel it works much better and is a more powerful sequence.

i recently got the UK edition,,i have a technical question (plz dont crucify me for it ;0),,when i watch all the other films there presented in the 'letterboxed, widescreen" format,EXCEPT for Aliens, which takes up the whole screen,,when i used to by VHS i prefered the 'letterboxed" but now that i have the flatscreen with bluray,i am prefering the way Aliens is presented, how come all the movies are not presented this way, even other titles,i thought with the flatscreens 'letterbox" was a thing of that past>?also with the presentation of Aliens this way,am i losing any part of the movie? thanks

All the Alien movies were photographed in the 2.39 aspect ratio(except Aliens). 2.39 is wider than 1.78(the aspect ratio of a typical HDTV). That is why there are still black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. Aliens fills most of your screen because it was photographed in an aspect ratio of 1.85, which is just a tad bit wider than 1.78. You aren't losing any image with Aliens as you would with any of the other films if they had been cropped to fill the screen.

Just ordered this from amazon a couple days ago! I haven't seen these films in a long time. Aliens is my all time favorite film, I would rent it on VHS everytime my dad took me to hollywood video.

For all who care, there are still 5 more. I'm not sure if this is the best price the US version has ever been available for without coupons, but I've watched and price tracked it for almost a year, and couldn't pass this price up.

Man, thanks so much for providing this!

After seeing that price, I made a quick run to Best Buy to return my unopened $15 copy of Alien3, then swung by Target to return my $15 copies of Alien and Aliens.

Saved me five bucks and I got an extra movie and plethora of special features out of it! I owe you big-time.
"Go, now. Go."

I only buy American. $10 in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather spend on my side of the ocean.

Yeah, I know what I said. I'm asking what your point in challenging my preference to buy US Blu-rays is. Not the hardware I watch them on.
