Like I said earlier, straight from Disney:

Regarding Dumbo: it’s been pushed from the current release schedule, and we do not have another release date at this time.

Thanks Blu-news. Actually, this thread should probably be renamed since it's mostly about Alice in Wonderland now.

Umm... not to interfere with the 'meaningful' discussion, but he said that Mary Poppins was the first live-action film released on DVD, not made. You need to read better before you flame people.

And of course they're not going to wait another 4-5 years, my guess would be that they're just waiting for the blu-ray market share to rise to somewhere between 20% and 30%. Plus they would have to provide the release with a new transfer - many people seem to forget that those cost a lot of money, time and effort.

of course they are they just released Mary Poppins in 2009 45th annniversary edition. It would be very stupid to release it again next year. They do this whole "vault thing" to introduce new classics to a new generation. Disney owns All of their movies and can do what ever they heck they want with it. Its genious marketing. People are still waiting for Beauty and the Beast (which is the Number 1 bootlegged disney movie of all time.

why wouldnt they wait 5 years for a blu ray mary poppins 50th anniversary?

2014? or 2015? sounds good to me! look how long pinnocchio took to even get a 2 disc release! they usually work on 5-7 year scale.

Sorry buddy... the "not 60th" blew your chance at using the "typo" excuse.

Default First Live-Action Title on DVD

Mary Poppins (Widescreen) - Release Date 3/25/1998...just checked, this preceded the Anchor Bay Disney titles from 1999, so the assertion that Mary Poppins was first to DVD seems sound. I think there was also a DIVX version that even preceded the DVD, but I'm not sure, so don't quote me on it.

It would be so frustrating if Fantasia streeted in Mexico in March while we had to wait in R1 until May or July.

Make a run for the border and buy it there.

So specs look like the average US release with subtitles and audio options, and DVD version coded for regions 1 and 4. Disc art itself has all English writing and US ratings on it too. nice.

George of the Jungle, Homeward Bound: Incredible Journey and Air Bud were the first Disney films to hit DVD from Disney in 1997. They were in clamshell packaging similar to how old Disney VHS tapes were released, big and bulky. The films were fullscreen only.

Mary Poppins was the 4th title and the first MAJOR title to hit DVD from Disney,
I have all the Poppins incarnations, including the original DVD and the Divx version still.
-Original Purple Wide-Screen banner edition was '98, non-anamorphic single layer, with 5.1 mix from previous laserdisc release in '97.
-Divx version came out around March of '99 was fullscreen only, but dual-layered.
-Gold collection of Poppins was same transfer, added bonus features, was dual-layered.
-40th anniversary, better video transfer, different audio mix from previous discs.
-45th anniversary, same video transfer, more bonus features, different audio mix from all previous discs. Minor improvement in sound quality. Fixes missing left channel on Spoonful of Sugar number, and fixes reversed surround channels on previous mixes.
