The original Grumpy Old Men came out on BD last year (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Grumpy...-Blu-ray/3963/) .... but prior to that, NEITHER film has been available on widescreen except on laserdisc. They were both released numerous times on DVD but never in widescreen. That always drove me nuts.

I wish Grumpier Old Men was a stand-alone release, but I will take what I can get. Very excited!!!

These are classics IMO

I received my copy from Amazon. I only watched Grumpier Old Men as I already have the standalone release of Grumpy Old Men.

The picture quality is about what I expected. Here is 1 full size screenshot:

Is the quality great? No. But I was more than happy with it... huge upgrade over the FULL SCREEN dvd... and for what it is the quality is perfectly fine IMO.

It will probably never look better so for fans of the movie, I encourage everyone to go for it!!!

I'm glad this is coming out as well. I might not buy the combo pack right away, but I will eventually.

It could be worse though... I bought the stand-alone Grumpy Old Men for something like $20.... Which is an amount I was happily willing to pay to get it right away. This combo pack is $17 and includes both movies. To me, I'm just paying $17 for Grumpier Old men, which is an amount I have no problem paying for it.

According to the press release for this set, Grumpy Old Men has been given a DTS-HD MA 2.0 treatment and Grumpier Old Men is DTS-HD MA 5.1.

I had no idea this was going to be so cheap. Grumpy Old Men has been a good $20 or so for a while and the combo pack is less lol. Well...I got GOM for free when I bought another bd player through Amazon so I guess I can live. I'm glad we now have both and they are in widescreen for the first time! These movies are classics. I miss the Matthau/Lemmon boys.

Now we just need Out To Sea and The Odd Couple 2 on BD ... (but at least they are available on DVD in widescreen) ... don't care what anyone says, those movies are hilarious too.

Is DTS-HD-MA gonna transform them into boombastic soundtracks?

Very good choice! Out to sea was hilarious..I don't care what anyone else thinks. I also enjoy Odd Couple 2 more than the first because they were a lot more funnier when they were older and calling each other out and getting into fights lol. I don't think that there will ever be another pair as great as Matthau/Lemon.

I agree..I wasn't happy about the 2.0 track that came with GOM but it's a lot of dialogue and like you said, it isn't the Incredible Hulk..lol. My biggest concern is that they were both given to us in the OAR...and WB finally came through and we've got them in 1080/widescreen. I'd imagine up next will be a combo of The Odd Couple 1 & 2..Out to Sea wasn't as popular so it will probably be a while until we get that.

I know but remember the "DTS fanboys" who think DTS magically changes everything?

Also, the core track could be at a higher-bit rate so for those without DTS-HD MA equipment, the lossy track could theoritically sound better with less compression.

Then again, it could sound worse. Oooh. This is Warner afterall.

Its more than likely the same picture quality as before just as the previous "Warner re-isues."

Knowing Warner this will be an exact port of the video encode from the standalone release.

My guess is it's the same... it only came out a few months ago, and it's on a 25GB disc so both movies should easily fit on a 50GB disc without any extras.

it'll be the same encode 99.9999999999% sure just a 2.0 HD-MA track instead of 2.0 TrueHD track. it was on a 25 gig disc with no special features so all they are doing is putting that on a 50 gig disc with the second movie (which also would have been on a BD-25)

How was the p.q. in the 1st release? I imagine we'll get the same quality & the same for the sequel? As long as there's a noticeable upgrade from the DVD's Warner will be getting my money. Good Flicks
