Seriously, that was the death of your arguement right there.

You do realize of course that "Old England" was constructed mostly of cobble stone and wood? Also, that those materials were very rarely cleaned? Old England, as portrayed in Sherlock Holmes, is very realistic. Would you really have been able to believe a Sherlock Holmes film in Old England whose backdrop was flooded with neon coloured buildings and whose characters wore clown coloured outfits?

What do you mean, they didn't wear clown coloured outfits in Old England?

Glad to see a mod merged this, thought it was silly to have a second thread for this film just to bash it, when the argument being made didn't really hold water.

Default Geeezzzz

The Speed racer comment wasn't necessary. Talk about overkill reaction. I din't mean the city should have a Sherwin Wiilliams paint job all over and a coca cola neon sign on the Ye Ol' Inn.....but the look was 100% brownwash...and I don't mean just the buildings. If you watch the people faces in first 1/2 of film, then the 2nd 1/2...there is a noticable difference. I just felt the look of the film was depressing and dreary. Boy, one opinion and the flies are all over my sh**!

.....maybe because Old England WAS depressing and dreary. Who would have thought that a director would try to be somewhat historically accurate?

I think I'll exchange my copy (a couple of times if needed), just to see how it goes and if there's any difference in the parts mentioned. Here's to hoping...
Keep calling...I called again just last week and they said they'd call back with an answer, and that they have my number. I think I was the first to tell them of the skipping issue.

Guy Ritchie strove to make the Bartitsu fairly historically accurate, as well

Also, I have spoke with Ken (the reviewer of Holmes on this site), and he is going to try and help as best he can.

I figured I will probably enjoy it, as I am pretty clear on what to expect. I always enjoy all of the Sherlock Holmes movies I see, I like the character and it does not matter much who is playing him or how much they change some of what he is. I see him like Robin Hood, the idea is there and you can pretty much setup him up as you wish, well as long as you don't give Robin some blasters and robot sidekicks...oh wait! I forgot about Rocket Robin Hood

Without spoiling anything, the internal dialog while fighting was top-notch.

Default Last attempt to explain..

1 week before I got the BD, I told a co-worker I was getting it. He himself told me the film was like someone had smeared poo all over the image. I laughed...now I know of what he spoke of. I wasn't speaking of just the bldgs. The sky, the foliage, the faces, etc...were ALL brown. I also was watched the film w/ my partner who ALSO was bored w/ the first hr and feel asleep, after I went to bed trying to finish watching it.
I also found the fight sequences too Matrix'esque for my liking.
We both kept turning up the volume on the surround to undertand Donney's mublings...Jude Law's I could understand fine.

So what you are stating is Ritchie was effective in trying to recreate the appearance of Victorian England?

The details were crisp in my opinion

Quote:

Ritchie is a Judo Shodan and a BJJ brown belt. So he respects what goes into making things appear somewhat realistic on the film.
He studied the fictitious (although now many persons are recreating and training) Western martial art of Bartitsu, as this is what it was stated Holmes practiced, in conjunction with boxing.
Downey trains in W/Ving Ts/Chun.
NONE of these styles are anything even remotely similar to "wire-fu".
And all this makes me respect what Ritchie did to make the fighting more realistic and entertaining.

This I will agree with.
Several times I had a difficult time understanding Downey's lines...most noticeably the scene with he, Law and Law's finance in the restaurant.
Finally, after like three passes, I just put the damn subtitles on so I could move forward with the movie.
My signature has mysteriously disappeared.
I blame the Clockwork Elves.

Because I might as well if I am 99% sure I will already like the movie, and in this case, it was the only way to see it right away since I have a Netflix account.

Without bothering to quote because I don't feel like it, the fight sequences weren't like The Matrix at all. If the person means about how they stopped, started, and were in slow motion at times, that was because he was going over the whole fight sequence in his head before it actually happened.
