Tell me about it! I am already looking for something else to buy, and I just upgraded the crap out of my system. I got a few irons in the fire.

I just bought an arcam preamp and cary tube amp. I'll be buying towers for my bedroom in the next few weeks also. There is always something you can do if you want to.

Sweet! I would love to hear a tube amp. I want a dedicated two channel set-up, but I dont have the space for it now. Is a tube amp really a whole lot better for music?

It is a matter of preference. And, tube amps, just like solid state amps can sound different. Tube amps though may have a greater difference in sound from amp to amp. Tube amps can sound a bit bloated according to some and solid state can sound a bit etched according to others. Tube amps can sound a bit more sweat. Solid State amps can be more accurate. You get the idea.

Okay, I am familiar with solid state. I had an old Technics tuner back in the day, and that thing was loud and clean. I liked it and I ended up blowing one side of it. I gave it away needless to say, and I wish I still had it. My dad was a part time disc jockey in Chicago, and he still owns alot of older equipment like mixers, turntables and such. I am waiting for him to pass it on to me, and I will not make the same mistake twice. I would love to hear a tube amp one day.

By the way Rich, I just want to say that your system is gorgeous, and I can only imagine how good it must sound. Quick question; whats the difference between balanced and unbalanced interconnects. I am a two-channel rookie for sure.

Thank you very much.

There are actual audio components that have true balanced designs and others that just accept balance connectors and of course there are audio components that only accept RCA connectors.

Take a look at this Wikipedia link:

+1. That pretty much sums it up. I'll solid pre and a tube amp so getting a mix of both. A lot of people will have tube pres and solid state amps to power difficult speakers to get a 'tube amp' effect. It really varies from model to model. I'm pretty much going off the advice of others since demoing most of the stuff I want is 3+ hours away.

Okay, now thats a little more clear to me. Balanced xlr connections give a more clean interference free connection even at longer lengths. And it has 3 conductors for better travel.

Thanks for the info Rich!

Sean, with those mirage speakers, a tube amp should sound sweet regardless.
