We probably would have heard by now if any of the mentioned titles are releasing in December. But when Avatar is released on Blu in the Spring, anything is possible.

This movie looks SO lame!!! The trailer looks like the movie is a Phantom Menace clone with tons of Jar Jar Bings aliens flying around. This is kids stuff and I will not spend my money on this...

Whatever...
Seriously though, I saw the preview on Avatar Day and it completely blew me away, the 3D was amazing, it wasn't really in your face but more of the subtle kind and really added depth to the picture, I walked away very impressed.
When I got home I decided to watch the teaser trailer, and even if it still impressed, I felt a bit underwhelmed.
Point is, if you haven't seen Avatar in 3D, you haven't seen ANYTHING at all. This really demands a 3D viewing.

Back on topic. I'd love to see The Abyss and Aliens (which is semi-confirmed with the Quadrilogy pack), and considering Fox owns the license for not only those, but also True Lies (and Titanic outside of the US and Canada), I'm guessing we'll se a bit of a Cameron boom around the time Avatar gets a home video release. Can't wait!

3D won't save this... The effect of 3D may be cool, but that alone don't make a movie great.

It's a bit like Independence Day and all the disaster movies that followed. I was really amazed by the spectacle that ID4 was. The awesome SFX somewhat made a mediocre movie very enjoyable. Then we got Armageddon, Dante's Peak, The Day After Tomorrow, etc., etc. Once again great SFX, but this time around there was nothing new. Just the same lame story wrapped around the effects.

And this is how I feel about the new wave of 3D. Great effect if done propperly, but it won't save a lame story...

I have faith in Cameron. Everything he's done since the first Terminator has been great IMO.
Not only does his movies often raise the bar on a technical level, they always put the story first, and even if his stories aren't the most original, it's his execution of them that really nails it, and I'm sure the same will apply to Avatar.
It may not be THE movie of the year, but it will certainly be THE movie EVENT and EXPERIENCE of the year, of that I am certain, and I will be there opening day.

I hope you're right. I think the first Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss are amongst the best sci-fi ever made. And for that Cameron will always be one of the great.

But my hopes for anything mindblowing from him sank together with the Titanic...

Why Avatar look good on screen We only have seen a preview and not the movie yet. The trailers looked ok and got my interest.

Also as GC Riot said since its James cameron it most likely will be good. So far he has done quite a few good films.

Now If it was another director like Uwe Boll directing then I would of been seriously worried that it would of been another crap film but its in the hands of a very good director so I very much doubt this film will be crap.

Don't judge it the movie because he made titanic. Titanic was more a love story and either you like it or not. Avatar is not in that catogary, Its sci-fi and looking at the trailers action as well which is what James Cameron is good at.

I am not sure whether this will be THE EXPERIENCE of the year for me coz I dont think I can feel as happy and excited as I was after coming out of the theatre watching "Inglorious Basterds" last week !

No film in a long time managed to do that for me

So....referring back to the actual question asked by this thread....I don't think any major blus will be released when Avatar comes out as we would have heard about it. However, I bet Titanic will come out alongside Avatar's blu release. Just my theory.

My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old.

because cameron is busy with making avatar. he needs to approve the HD prints for his movies. they (fox & van ling) are waiting for him to be done with avatar to do that. we are probably looking at next year for releases of the abyss and true lies.. better widescreen much less a bluray edition.

You confuse ripping off with paying an homage.

I would love to see The Abyss on Blu. What a site that would be.

Ah, so that's why he (Tarantino) doesn't mention Ringo Lam's Lung fu fong wan (aka. City on Fire) with a word when interviewed about Reservoir Dogs? Reservoir Dogs is almost a fram by frame rip-off of Lam's far superior movie.

I have nothing against homages, but in order for it to be a homage you have to acknowledge the original source...

True Lies needs a Blu release bad. Above anything else, that's what I want.

But I thought a new Skynet edition of The Terminator was being released this fall.

I suspect this film will not look good on BD or DVD due to the 3D not working properly. It is clear from the youtube trailers that it looks poor in 2D.

Except from what I've seen and read it's a love story wrapped in mind-blowing SFX...just like everyone's favorite sinking ship, only this time the wrapper is sci-fi. Which doesn't look good for the planet Pandora or its people, other than Zoe Saldana. (She may be buried in CGI here, but she certainly wasn't as Uhura. )

And youtube trailers are a perfect judge of how it will look on Blu-ray...

I think it will look spectacular in HD....CGI usually does

I'm just bummed that it looks like a very generic love/action/war story. I could see it totally boring me to tears, but I'm still willing to give this movie a chance.
