Sadly, that price is pretty normal for Japanese anime. Japanese otaku are used to the pricing scheme and spend accordingly. I am a bit surprised that it is still that high for a title that would be considered fairly mainstream. Studio Ghibli is stuff that big-market appeal, unlike niche late-night anime shows.
Anyway, I'm hesitant to import Ghibli blu-ray that I know Disney will eventually release. Aside from the price difference, I also want my monies to go to the US market. Still, whenever Japan releases blu rays of Ghibli titles that Disney will never release (Only Yesterday, for example, or Ocean Waves), well, I'd definitely import those. |

Disney's Ponyo has no lossless audio. it's why i 'ponied' up for an import, though i think i went w/the Taiwan version instead of the Japanese version. a bit cheaper on yesasia.
so, if the Disney's Nausicaa has no lossless, then i'm gonna import it.
Blu-Ray is so awesome! =)

I agree with The Theory. I'll pay for something that won't see the light of day over here like Ocean Waves. |

Will be interesting to see what audio US version gets since they lost out on Ponyo. Can´t be that hard to use the original LPCM2.0 but you never seem to know with disney these days.

I´m holding out for a UK version if they mess up the US one somehow. Never know with Disney.

I'll hold off for now and see what audio the US edition will be getting. If it's sub-par as was the case with Ponyo, I'll fork over the extra money to get the JPN edition, like I'll do with Ponyo.

I preordered it, even though I own the limited edition region 2 DVD with figurine. I've only watched the DVD a couple of times since I got it in 2003, which makes me think I might be crazy for spending so much on the Blu-ray now. But I couldn't pass up high def Ghibli.

Just to let you know that the UK blu ray of Ponyo got all the extras the American one did but got the Japanese HD audio track and a PCM English track.

Yeah, but it's locked to Region B, which makes it useless to the vast majority of us here in the US.
Forget The Evil Dead; what George Lucas has done to Star Wars since 1997 is truly "The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror".

I'd wait for confirmation if you are living in a Non-Region A area. I believe the Japanese Ponyo is region all.

I can confirm that the Japanese Ponyo BD is region free. Most of the special features are promotional fluff but there's a good NHK documentary on it that's subtitled in at least English. You can watch the English dub as a special feature but there will be non-removable Japanese subtitles on screen at all times. But the English subs that Ghibli have provided for the Japanese track are absolutely stellar.

I think Nausicaa will most likely be Region All too because of those different audio tracks it has on it. It'd be dumb to put a German dub and lock it to Region A.
