If you were in the wild, I would attack you, even if you weren't in my food chain. I would go out of my way to attack you. If I were a lion and you were a tuna, I would swim out in the middle of the ocean and freaking eat you and then I'd bang your tuna girlfriend.

The classic costume would have looked pretty cool on Cavill.

I'll get used to it. He just looks naked without his tight red undies.

The undies and belt complement the symbol nicely and break up the costume. Without it it's just kinda . . . blue.

I am okay with the change in style to the suit for an attempt to shake things up and give us something new. I would like to see more color than that muted look and I hope it has some in the final product.

Wow. I never realized just how terrible the colouring is on the new suit. That shit had best get some serious boost from the cinematography. Otherwise, it looks like the character is being viewed through some awfully heavy tinted shades. It drains the lifeforce out of the character completely. No matter how good an actor Cavill is, it's gonna be nearly impossible to act his way out of that "darkness."

Was the same with the muted colours on the Returns suit- it just isn't Superman!

Why Filmmakers seem so scared of sticking to the colours that made the character and suit so iconic is beyond me. If the performance and film is right, then there will be no one crying about red underpants being outdated or the suit looking cheesy.

Superman isn't a hero that plays in the shadows (ditto with Spider-Man and the Webb's reboot going for darker/grittier look) just as Batman, at his best, isn't a character that works in a world of neon and nipples. Nolan understood the character at his most basic strengths in Begins (whether he has continued that is up for debate- even if I do adore the films).

Basically it seems like Singer and now Snyder seem scared of putting the iconic Superman suit up on screen for fear of it looking daft and dated, when the truth is it shouldn't matter, the story and characterisation does.

Let's hope the suit, even without pants and belt, gets a decent colour boost in post-production.

What is the 'iconic' suit? There have been so many versions over the years.
To be honest, if Snyder put cavill in reves suit it would look ridiculous! It was from the 70's. To be honest, I hate the red underwear. I much prefer an alien suit than his mum making it for him ( how does she stitch it? )
Just my opinion, I love the knew suit.

It's not so much the design of the suit though. I've come to terms with the lack of red shorts and alien patterning. It's the colouring of it. Superman is suppose to be a beacon of light for humanity in many ways. The suit is suppose to help reflect that in a visual way. The old suits (even the Superman Returns suit) had a vibrant nature that instantly made you smile and feel good at some basic level when you saw them. When I look at this new suit I feel sad and depressed because of the colours.

It just reflects poorly on what the character stands for. It seems completely antithetical. And THAT is why I fear that this film will be too dark or "gloom and doom" for a Superman film. I'm starting to believe that the suit is saying a lot more about the atmosphere of the film then we are being led to believe.

Just like Superman Returns, the colouring seems to be based off of Evil Superman from Superman III. I hope we at least get a homage to this scene:

You feel sad and depressed? What do you feel when you see batman?
The colours have been altered a tiny bit. It's still red, blue and yellow. There have been series where his suit has been darker all the time. I just think the audience who don't know superman that well will react better towards it. Every friend who thinks of superman hates his **** underpants. Batman lost his and for the better.

There is always time for a slight costume change. Hero's seem to do i all the time these days. Captain America got a change, not many complained tbh. Thor had a slight shift too between his movie and Avengers with what he wore. Iron Man does it all the time.

Batman is probably my most liked version of changes. The begins suit was good, but TDK suit is on another level for me. I think Superman could easily go for a lighter colour next time out but i'm not gonna call that just yet, cause the costume could be very fitting when watching the movie. It's a new direction for the boyscout and could work out. Well, i hope so anyways

Looks like you are wrong - at least, according to the director.

Meanwhile the film's director Zac Snyder recently spoke with Dotted Line about how the casting of Henry Cavill came about. Here's his response:

"We had about 500 guys initially. We did this massive auditioning madness. It got down to the usual suspects in a pretty quick order. Henry Cavill was actually the first one we physically tested on film. We actually tested him in the Christopher Reeves Superman suit. And that was a big deal. That’s a hard suit to pull off. Trust me. If you’re just standing there in that suit, it’s dodgy. It felt like we just bought it a costume shop. Plus, there’s no mask. I’ve been around a few superhero costumes, and it’s weird because when you’re in the Superman costume it’s just you from the neck up. And somebody just combed your hair. But Henry came out of the trailer when we were shooting a test and everybody thought, ‘Okay, that’s Superman.’ He was awesome and did a great job.”
From the rest of the article (just talks about the teaser being announced, which we already know about).

A few days before the first footage screens at this year's Comic Con in San Diego, the Alberta Film Ratings board has confirmed that a teaser trailer for the project is on the way.

The G-rated trailer runs 87 seconds and is expected to go online next week sometime, almost certainly attached to copies of "The Dark Knight Rises" from next Friday

I love the classic suit but the new suit looks pretty good.

I hope the teaser really showcase this movie and we get more than the Superman symbol and music.

Wow, I didn't think the new suit looked bad at all until that pic was posted comparing it to the classic suit. The brighter colors and red trunks just look a lot better in comparison. I do really like the texture of the new suit though.
