Magneto (McKellen) is British. Kick-Ass (Johnson) is British. Bullseye (Farrell) is Irish. Doc Ock (Molina) is British. Ra's al Ghul (Neeson) is Irish. The Scarecrow (Murphy) is Irish. Juggernaut (Jones) is British. Thor (Hemsworth) is Australian. Red Skull and V from V for Vendetta (Weaver) is Australian. Bane (Hardy) is British.

Excellent casting. I haven't seen much of Cavill but from what i've seen, he's an excellent actor, is likable, and has more charisma than Hamm, Routh, or Welling.
Just like to add Eric Bana (Hulk) and Heath Ledger - both Australians - to that list. Also I think you mean Hugo Weaving not Weaver.

Anyway, I'm excited to see how this movies goes.

Superman will speak with a British accent and Clark will speak with an American accent. Another way to hide his identity!!!

This is an interesting choice. I don't think I've seen him in any movies before so I don't really have an opinion on the casting choice. Surprise me!

Iconic characters can last for ages. By the time one generation tires of them, a new one comes in that's interested in it. Look at Sherlock Holmes for example.

WB will work a deal out. Otherwise, Superman would never see film again and could very well die out of comics/cartoons as well. Without pairing the legal rights of the decedents of the creators with DC's own rights over the character, Superman isn't gonna do anything. And the decedents of the creators know that they won't be able to milk more money out of the brand if no one can license the character that WB partially owns.

Probably just worried about accents. I'm willing to give benefit of doubt, but I'd be really worried if a man raised in Kansas has even a hint of a British accent.
I need to stop buying so many movies and not getting around to watching them.

This casting is a complete shock to me. I only know Cavill as Brandon on the Tudors, so I can't speak for his other work but he was always stellar on that show. His casting comes out of left field for me as I had no idea he was even in contention, but I am alright with this as of now. It could have been a lot worse that is for sure.

I was just watching tv and they showed a picture of the guy from "from paris with love" Johnathan Rhys Meyers as Superman I was like "aw man... really? meh" (they were showing scenes from The Tudors but Meyers was pictured only)

and then i find out its this other guy from the Tudors and im like "OH MAN I WISH IT WAS Meyers!"

id actually prefer if they re-casted Routh I hated the superman returns movie but i felt Routh could Fit

anyway im not expecting anything from this superman since it seems like its just going to be a rushed cash grab job

Does Tom Cruise look his height in the movies? It's really not going to be a problem!

He looks the part for me so my only concern is that they put a great story together. Quite honestly the moment I hear the name Lex Luthor I'm going to be immediately put off seeing it.

C'mon Zack, make a villain that Supes can let loose with! I want to see a massive fight the like of which has never been seen before in cinema history!!

Three definite NO's = NO origin, NO Lex Luthor and NO Kryptonite. There's a reason he's called the Man of Steel, so let's see it for a change instead of the tired "here's a normal fight with normal henchmen because they've got kryptonite gloves on, supplied by Lex"

yeah and i hope its not going to be Zod, since the show has overused him, or Braniac since the cartoons have overused him

they should do a Doomsday and end with superman dead since its likely going to be the last supes movie for awhile

I see what you mean. What with all of Christopher Nolan's movies being rushed cash grabs.

Jimmy: Miss Lane, I think the new guy and Superman are the same person! They both showed up in Metropolis around the same time, and Mr. Kent kinda looks like him if you imagine him without his glasses!

Lois: Oh, Jimmy, don't be ridiculous! Superman has an accent; Clark doesn't. How do you explain that?

I'm kinda glad they went outside the rumor-filled choices at least...So for me, this guy gets a fresh start. I am however sad that our Gotham/Chicago Caped Crusader, our NYC web-slinger, and now Smallville, KS-raised Supes are ALL British.

Could they seriously not find an American to do a convincing accent for even one of these???

But anyhow...I'm going to stay optimistic 'cause I was NOT digging any of the other folks people were rumoring for the part!

Fan illustration of Cavill:

And interesting tidbit...guess he was due sooner or later:

Quote:
Cavill's been a contender for several big genre roles throughout his career. The L.A. Times reports that Cavill was in the running for Clark Kent in 2006, when McG was helming Superman Returns — of course, the role eventually went to Brandon Routh and Bryan Singer secured directing duties. Also, Cavill auditioned for Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins and was passed over for James Bond in favor of Daniel Craig.

I believe Nolan is producing along with his wife Emma Thomas. Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer are writing the story.

I don't mind British actors. Hell if you ever watch House, you can hear first hand how impeccable Hugh Laurie's accent is. He can pass for an American. Only when you hear him speak without the accent, you hear how thick his British accent is. I believe he will be fine and getting excited for this now

Apology accepted. Nolan was given the reins to this project and he is producing and writing for this film. I doubt that Nolan will let this movie turn into a turd. I'm sorry you were unaware of the facts concerning this movie.

Your example has a bit of irony. Bryan Singer (of Superman Returns) is one of the producers of House. After Hugh Laurie auditioned, he remarked to someone else that Laurie was "the kind of American actor he was looking for." Singer was shocked to find out that Laurie was a Brit copying an American accent.
