If building a 2.1 system with an integrated amp that only has two channel connection, how do you connect a sub to it? This is a general question.

If you have the amp , You will also need A Pre-pro or A receiver . Then you can hook A non-Passive sub to that . If you use A passive sub , then you will need another amp to drive the sub . or A 3-channel amp .

It really depends on the integrated amp and sub combo that you go with. I don't know off hand what integrated amps offer a sub output, if any. An AVR would, but that is multi channel. If you go with a sub such as a Rel, they connect via the actual amp terminals.
My suggestion would be to listen to some gear and see what you like. Once you have an idea of what you like, post it and then the proper connections can be determined from there.

Quite a few integrateds have sub outs, if not almost every powered sub out there has speaker terminals on it for this reason. You route your speaker wire through the sub then onto the speakers and the sub will strip the info it needs for the low freq.

Set the main L+R channels to Large and send the speaker wire into the sub wire terminals. From there, route a second run of speaker wire back to the respected speaker. On the back of the sub, you will have to adjust the phase as well as the crossover to integrate it with the L+R channels to your liking.
