George Lucas Directing Red Tails Reshoots.

Hey,

Looks like Lucas will be handling the Reshoots mainly because he was displeased with director Anthony Hemingway's work!!!.

Here are some details:

Just over a week ago, we broke the news that George Lucas, who was displeased with director Anthony Hemingway's work, would be directing some heavy reshoots for the upcoming Lucasfilm production of Red Tails, the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. Shortly after the story gained steam, a representative from Lucasfilm denied our report as "completely inaccurate." But now, in the new print edition of Entertainment Weekly (scan of the article here) comes confirmation that Lucas is indeed directing reshoots on the film, but supposedly only because Hemingway is busy working on the HBO series "Treme" for David Simon instead.

However, let's think about this for a second. In their denial of our inital report, Lucasfilm said "additional shooting that is scheduled to take place was built into production before it began, as it is on all our films." But if that's the case, and these aren't unexpected reshoots, then why weren't they built into Hemingway's responsibilities and at least penciled into his schedule? Apparently Lucas simply doesn't want to wait for Hemingway to finish his work on "Treme" for these reshoots, but can anyone recall another time when an executive producer/financer for a film who happens to be a high profile filmmaker, takes over the reigns for something as simple as "scheduled" reshoots four months into their post-production time?

How much reshoots will it ask for? Tarantino's directing in Sin City was barely noticeable even though his scene was the most interesting one.

Then again is Lucas really worth directing? He's got good ideas but he's a horrible script writer. Star Wars still looks good today and so do the prequels. So he's definitely got an imagination.

He should have just directed it in the first place. He was arrogant about it. He wrote it and mainly produced it because he didn't want to direct. If you aren't pleased with what someone else is doing with your work, then do it yourself. I think he probably gets that now.

Anytime I here a movie go to re-shoots with another person at the helm, it has disaster written all over it.

I know its crazy. But at least this time its Lucas getting involved. It may be worth something. Who knows?

The trouble with Lucas is that he is not good with actors. The guy as ideas and good one and he see's it all already in his mind. His trouble is he can't tell someone else what he want's. Check Harrison Ford talking about it in interviews "it's right there on the page, I wrote it, do it! Why can't you do it like that?" I think he should stay away from directing and come up with the ideas. But clearly he as a heck of a hard time letting others play with his toys

So to him its all a matter of good communication. Otherwise, issues as such take place.

I mean more like he might not be a bad director but as long as he got certain type of actors doing the movie. Clearly he can direct if he's focus on it. American Graffiti is far from being a bad movie and he had amazing actors in that one as well. I think maybe he just get's too attach to his techonlogical toys he as help constructed in the last 30 years

He's done a few second unit/reshoots on alot of the movies he only produced including More American Graffiti and Raiders of the Lost Ark

I think he does a good job as a producer rather than a director. With this movie hopefully things work out.

Movie look's interesting so I am with you, let's hope it turn's out great.

On a side note, I wish I had his hair, Lucas I mean, a full head of hair for a guy in his mid 60's
