Default How to get Sharpie off the disc?

I ordered a rental BD, but it has some sharpie writing on it. I was wondering how to get it off without damaging the artwork on the disc.

I've read of using rubbing alcohol, but some say that the art will come off too.

Some people have mentioned using Goo Gone or writing over it again with a dry erase marker and then erasing it.

Anyone have a clue which method works the best?

It wont come off without damaging the art..trust me on that. Just let it go and you'll be a lot happier.

I bought a used xbox game and it arrived with someones name written on it in large permanent marker. Long story short, I took a cloth, rinsed it and put some comet on it. Then i gently rubbed/scrubbed the marker right off. It worked perfectly and didn't damage the disc art but I can't make any guarantees.

The only thing I can think of is Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but Im not going to say that it wont remove any artwork.

Take a sharpie, write over the old sharpie mark, then wipe off. Sounds weird, but it works!

Rubbing Alcohol.

Just place a little on the end of a q-tip and rub it over the writing. It will clean of the sharpie then you just wipe it off. I've done it many times on used dvd's and games. Works Great

I've used Goo Gone and it works great. Don't know if it works well with shiny discs without any artwork, but it removed the permanent marker without marring the artwork on the discs I've used it on.

This has worked along with using Alcohol

try lighter fluid

i have used that for getting sticky residue off of blu-ray cases, slipcovers AND discs, and it has done no damage

i cannot guarantee it will get the sharpie off, but i can assure you it will not remove any of the disc art

Try rubbing it lightly with a pencil eraser.

I have the same problem with a former rental. I've decided I'm just gonna get over it however, I would prefer to not compound the problem while trying to remove it

Just when you think you got a great deal on the used BD, someone spoils your fun by having marked it up with the sharpie of death. It really is enough to drive a sane man mad.
