Default Onkyo 608

I don't keep up on receivers much since I have no plans to upgrade my Onkyo 805 anytime soon, but ran across this.

http://gizmodo.com/5488963/onkyos-tx...ix-hdmi-inputs

Not sure if it is old news or not. Just throwing it out there.

Still no pre-outs on the 600 model. It's a shame they won't add them.

Agreed.. but in their defense, if they were to put all their eggs in one basket then the reason to buy the 7xx or even the 8xx series would be even smaller.

Looking at the press release it looks like the 608 will be THX select2 cert and increase from 90w to 100w per so I would say Onkyo has put an interesting 3D unit out.

is having pre-out really that much better? or does it depend on what you want to do with your equipment?

A receiver that has pre-outs gives the user the option of hooking up an external amp. So yes it really only comes down to what sort of equipment you want to run.

well from the OP's link 'The Onkyo TX-SR608 will cost $599 when it hits next month.'

So $400 isnt enough.

$599 is the MSRP, the street price is usually $100 or so cheaper after the first cpl months.

You're going to put down a whole brand, because of a problem you're having with one receiver?
My 805 doesn't have any kind of a problem, and it's an Onkyo.............

I've never had that issue with my 605. The 606 was not alone that year as other manufacturers had similar problems. In fact nearly every manufacturer had HDMI problems for the first two years when HDMI was becoming the norm. This is no longer a problem with any manufacturer as far as I know.

Most people would swear off a particular brand after being burnt.
In this case, as the guy above me said, maybe its a common issue for early hdmi and therefore forgivable.

I'm looking at buying the SR-608 ($449.00 on JR). I'm relatively new to this space (My current receiver is 12 yrs old Kenwood VR-309). I really want to upgrade but also want to spend my money wisely.

The common consensus in this forum is buying separate pieces is the way to go. I would be incredibly grateful if someone would explain to me what benefit there is to me (will I be able to tell a difference) in buying the:

Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver $449 (and say a separate Polk speaker set ~$300)
THX Cert, 100watts x 7
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=f

VS.
Onkyo TX-SR508 receiver $299 (and say a seperate Polk speaker set ~$300)
No THX certification, 80watts x 7
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=i

VS.
OR Just going HTiB

Onkyo HT-S5300 (HTiB) $499.99
130watts x 7
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=f

All three choices are HDMI 1.4a (so future proof).

Default intel i3.. no audio via HDMI

Guys.. I am in some serious need of help.. I have finished building my HTPC Today but unable to correct sound from my intel i3 via HDMI .. Below are the Specs:

Silverstone SG06 Case

ZOTAC H55 ITX WIFI motherboard

Intel i3 530 Clarkdale

4GB Crucial DDR3 RAM

40GB Kingston SSD

Windows 7 Home Premium

After installing windows updates I went to the Zotac website and installed the intel HD graphics and HD sound for my motherboard.. I also installed the Realtek codecs.

I have the HDMI running from my motherboard into the Onkyo 608 Amp and then from the AMP to the TV..

The problem is my AMP keeps flickering "HDMI, PCM" on the display and its actually making a clicking noise !as if I just switched the Amp on.. " you here a little bit of the audio but then cuts ot and then coes back...?

When I hit display it says input 5.1 PCM and then Multi Channel or something like this but keeps flickering.. ?

Can anyone please advise me as what I need to do? Am I doing anything wrong ..? Is there a setting in the AMP or anything I need to do to windows to get everything working perfectly?

Thanks..

^ Try Disabling the "Control" (for the CEC feature), the "Power Control", and the "TV Control"; from the Menu Setup in your 608.
* And while at it, turn the "Immediate Display" Off.

** And make sure your "HDMI Audio" is set to Off.

*** Oh and select the right "Listening Mode Preset" for all your sources, again from the Menu Setup in your 608.

~ Keep in touch.
