I was told by BB that the new Sony 3D Blu was coming out, they thought, tomorrow. They got one early to set up the display.

And there is the real killer to most people I would think. I am not a big fan of 3D since it gives me headaches but I am always will to give stuff a try and for just myself and my wife that is not too bad. But what if I was doing say a Super Bowl party for 20 now we are talking 4K just for glasses. And good luck talking everyone that is not a tech geek to buy their own. We know we all have those friends that never buy into tech. And even those that are if they donot have a set of their own to use them with it would be a very hard sell.

Hello
Having personally seen 3D Demonstrations for many years now; I do not have any interest in 3D for many reasons specific to myself. Regardless, it is my intention to purchase both a 3D HDTV and 3D Blu-ray Player this year. It is for the build quality and consequence of picture quality and sound quality that is driving my interest; nothing more. While this will allow for viewing 3D Releases easily; it is unlikely that I will even take the time myself to watch available content; even if I have it at home in my library of movies. I have already seen 2D Content on a 3D Display; it is simply outstanding! 2D HDTV is far better than what most see on their respective displays; so, having a higher quality display, simply makes for a Truer HDTV Experience. In closing, it is my expectation, without having seen it, that the forthcoming Panasonic TC-P50VT25 Series 3D HDTV's will be recognized as being the most outstanding Plasma HDTV's ever made available; besting the well recognized Pioneer Elite Kuro Displays of recent years. Panasonic hired many of the departing Kuro Engineers, and acquired rights to the Pioneer Elite Kuro Technology last year, so the coming displays should incorporate significant improvements beyond anything previously available; hopefully incorporating improved calibration access for the perfect picture. Regardless, I will finally be acquiring a flat panel display, for the first time, to evaluate at home against my reference CRT monitors and televisions, which are simply outstanding, to this day. You're not going to get sterling sound quality from any television. More interesting, some companies like http://www.hdi3d.com/ are coming up with very interesting alternatives, which should be given a chance. There are very serious stumbling blocks to the current crop of 3D sets...I'd wait to see how good they truly are. Of course, if you're dissatisfied with what you currently own, and are for some reason in a hurry to buy into the 3D format, it's up to you whether to rush in or not. |

Hello
Nice to hear from you; thank you. I am in no hurry, just curious, expecting significant performance from the 2010 Panasonic 3D TV-P50VT25, which is already larger than I wish for, as a 42 would be preferred; size is not important to me, quality is. I have considerable faith in Panasonic, as they have produced outstanding performance for a decade of plasma already, as I see it. I am not in any way dissatisfied with my current reference CRT Television; only interested, especially for my family and friends interested in flat panels. The 2010 Panasonic 3D Displays, are simply interesting, and I fully expect to be outstanding. Not only have I previously experienced Panasonic 3D on several occasions, being the best 3D Experience I have encountered, but I actually spent the entire afternoon today attending the 2010 Panasonic 3D Tour, which not only confirmed their outstanding performance, but also outstanding Blu-ray, digital cameras, and especially, their 1080p camcorders. Thank You Quote:

I will, but in a few years. I bought a new TV last year. I figure I will give this one a few years to get old and in the meantime 3D technology will get any kinks worked out.
My set-up:
*52 inch LG LCD (52LG70) *DirectTV HD-DVR *Sony BDP-S360 *Sony DVP-NS75H (great DVD up-converter) *Onkyo 606 with Sony speakers *Nintendo Wii |

This is the real deal. I got the BB person to give me a demo on the Panasonic plasma. It looked better than Avatar in the theater. I saw clips of Monsters vs. Aliens.
The sales associate said that the TV would come with 2 pairs of glasses. The glasses have a small battery inside and seemed rather heavy. I previewed for a few minutes - don't know how this would be for a 2 hour movie. Also many families will need more than two pairs of glasses. Off angle viewing was good - don't how this would be for LCD 3D. It appeared that the plasma was in a bright mode as it looked like an LCD. Just purchase a Kuro so I will not get in on this right away. Probably be a couple of years for the bugs to get worked out and the prices to drop. Certainly was a pleasant viewing experience but again how pleasant will it be wearing those heavy glasses for 2 hours. Last edited by fuwa; 03-16-2010 at 11:25 PM. |

Not a chance.
I mean, maybe one day for a smaller TV just for fun, but I think these are terrible as a main viewing source. For a "treat" its cool and all once in a while, but its no where near the awesome experience achieved by a standard blu-ray player on a 240hz LED TV as far as I'm concerned. To me thats 3D, but the opposite way, like I'm looking out a window and its all happening right out in front of me. Plus, the thought of having to wear glasses every time you wanna watch a movie just doesn't quite sit right with me….. |

Like most have stated before, I will wait the new technology out before I jump in. Hopefully, they will be able to reproduce the passive 3D technology (polarization) that commercial theaters currently use, instead of the active 3D with shutter glasses. Then I would give stronger consideration for it. Even then, I wouldn't use it for everyday viewing.

I've seen the Sony demo and frankly I'm not impressed. Well, not impressed enough to plunk down the required cash for a whole new home theater set up. As one who went through the 3-D craze in the 50's and watched it die because wearing those glasses was too much of a pain for most people, I'm a bit skeptical about the potential of this format. Let's see how takes off (or doesn't take off!) in the next year or two and then I'll re-evaluate. In the meantime I'm happy with my 2-D set up and the new blu's that are coming out.
