This looks like it will be even better then Band of Brothers. I am hoping for a summer release on BD. Follows 3 real Marines though the Pacific campaign. Focus is in the struggle the soldiers have with the environment, trying to stay sane and alive.

yeah, should be awesome. I'm reading "With The Old Breed" by E.B. Sledge right now. I'm sure a lot of "Sledgehammer"'s experience on Peleliu & Okinawa will be depicted throughout. My wife's father was in the Pacific from 1941-1945 on the USS Prometheus AR3.

I saw 2 episodes at a sneak peak thing last week. I thought it was quite good. I haven't seen all the Band of Brothers episodes, but it does remind me of it.
The cool thing is, it follows 3 Marines (to include my favorite Gunnery Sergeant "Manila" John Basilone), all on different islands with different stories. It is pretty neat to see Hollywood giving respect to the Marines and the Japanese side of the war. PSN: LeoSki31 Common Sense is an Uncommon Virtue

I ordered an HDPVR and HBO HD last week just so i could watch and record this series. Not sure if it will be better than BoB but i am sure it will be just as good.
Can't wait..only 12 hours and 20 minutes to go

Haven't been this exited about a TV show since..well Band of Brothers came on. And that was in SD. And I would record it for my brother-in-law on VHS.

I too am looking forward to The Pacific. DVR is all set up and ready to go, even though I will more than likely watch it live.

Cannot wait! We just upgraded our tier level to include HBO just for this show and True Blood. Don't know if we will be able to give it up later though because we have already been watching many movies on there. Also, for those that don't know, I have AT&T Uverse and in the HBO on demand section they have special featurettes on THE PACIFIC. Most of them focus on the real life guys it's based on and they are very good and informative to watch before the show starts.
You wouldn't like me when I'm angry

Called Verizon yesterday and they had a free 3 month HBO promotion. Got my DVR set for tonight.

My grandfather was a SeaBee, signed up after Dec. 7. He had marine construction experience (it was how me made a living in Sarasota) so he spent his Navy time rebuilding Pearl and was a CPO. After the war my dad, who graduated high school in '48, went out from home in Florida via freighter, which transversed the Panama Canal, and joined my grandfather in Honolulu and went to the University of Hawaii. Among his classmates, a future astronaut, Gordon Cooper. Less then 2 hours. Can't wait!

I like how you threw a vague, baseless suggestion about a Blu-Ray release in the thread title just to have an excuse to post this thread here rather than the Move and TV discussion forum where it belongs.

I think I paid $80 for the BoB DVD tin within a year of its release. Blu-Ray wasn't even available then.
