Sleepy Hollow - how bad is the PQ? - Blu-ray Forum

I have heard various things about this one - some say decent, some say downright horrible. What's the truth on this title? Are there severe problems, or just a lackluster transfer?

I own this...one of my favorites

... and i think that it looks pretty good. Not great...but definately GOOD! The atmosphere of the movie dosen't help it much (All of the FOG) but it's DEFINATELY the best its EVER looked! You won't find a better source than the Blu-ray. So...if you like this movie...buy it! By the way...it sounds pretty good too!

It does...but it sound bad. When i bought it...I was more concerned about the sound. I thought it would be terrible because it wasn't lossless. But I was surprised!

It actually sounded pretty good!!!

Yeah normally I'd be with you, but it's probably a very low priority title for Paramount which doesn't have too many catalogue releases in the first place. So I just wanna know if it's like a decent transfer that'd be worth getting for $10, or whether it has serious problems like crush and banding and DNR etc.

either you want to see the movie or you don't. never mind what we have to say. for example, i liked the movie, i thought the PQ & AQ were fine, it was grainy because that's the way they wanted it to look given the period and the location of the movie; see, that's me. give it a rent if you want your questions answered and stop depending on us to tell you what to do. I suspect that you can afford a rental, so rent it and get back to us!

done & done....next!

I'm not asking you to tell me what to do, I'm asking you whether there's any technical problems with the transfer. Thanks for nothing.

your taking this the wrong way. notice in my reply i even gave my opinion of the movie. my point was try renting it to determine it for yourself. some will say yes, some will say no are you inclined to believe one or the other without seeing it for yourself, that was my point. i'm sorry you took it the wrong way but i'm not sorry for what i said. i still recommend that you see it for yourself. what some call good you may call bad and vise versa. Oh yeah, i own it on blu and hd-dvd again, as before i recommend you rent it and tell us what you think. and there were no technical problems with either blu or red versions since i've seen them both.
I also liked Gladiator, most hated it for the picture quality, see what i mean.

again, sorry if you took it the wrong way, but, seeing it for yourself is the only way you can truely determine "how (if at all) bad the PQ is"

I agree with Solar in many ways, you're gonna have to be the deciding factor on this one. I personally loved it, although there really isn't any "wow" factor to it IMO. Either way, it looked pretty nice on BD, and think you'll agree.

If you are a fan of the movie then just buy it, especially if it's only around 10 bux. If you plan to watch it more than 2 or 3 times, it's worth it. The blu-ray and hd-dvd have the same transfer.
This film is extremely grainy.

And the sound is adequate. There is nothing wrong with the disc, so you shouldn't wait for years for a remaster. Just enjoy it now.

DNR isn't an issue. The transfer is loaded with grain.

That review is from June of 2009, so a 3.5 star PQ rating is pretty decent for a 3 year old transfer with MPEG-2 compression.

Back on topic; it is one of my favorite movies and it is not the kind of film that will ever be embraced as reference picture quality, simply because of the style it was filmed in. Highly recommended.

It's not a bad BD, in my opinion. If I found out they were going to re-master it, I'd wait, but it could be years before such a thing happens. Either was it's a step up from the DVD.

I have the old HD-DVD release of this, the PQ isn't that great... does anyone know if the UK or French Blu-ray versions are a significant step-up in PQ from this?

EDIT: Found the threads about it, looks like they aren't much better

Wait like I did and buy it on sale. I think I got mine for under $14.00.
