Days of Heaven Blu-ray disc, possible defect?

Has anyone noticed a possible manufacturing defect in the Days of Heaven Blu-ray disc that occurs at 47:49? The reason I was asking is this had happened on 2 discs now (the original and the replacement) and I am fairly certain its not an anomaly with my Sony BDP-350. I have 220 other titles that include multiple disc sets and they all play okay. I did have 2 defective discs in the past (Chronicles of Riddick and Basic Instinct) and when replaced they played okay. Chronicles of Riddick had a known defect. The replacement of Basic Instinct that played correctly had slightly different packaging (changes in the color scheme) than the defective one. This usually happens when the studio issues a slipstream disc and keeps the same UPC number.

I had the disc freeze around the 49 minute mark earlier today on my S550. This is the first disc I've had a problem with, I'll be getting a replacement tomorrow and giving it another shot.

What makes this film so special? I don't normally pay $28.00 for a movie. So, yes, the price seems steep to me.

I just tested the section from 47min to past 51min on my PS3 with no problem. I suppose it depends on which player you use. In any case, it is cause for concern and Amazon has indeed suspended sales of the title. Hopefully, Criterion finds the source of the problem and offers a free replacement program.

You may or may not like the film (I don't know what your tastes are like), though, at the very least, I'm sure you'll like how gorgeous its cinematography is. I, like many, happen to love the film and all the other ones its director, Terrence Malick, has brought to life.

In any case, the $28 price tag is worth it for this film, its near-perfect a.v. presentation from Criterion, the very informative supplementary material (the commentary track is the best) and the booklet that accompanies it. Occasionally, there are sales on Criterion discs, which can drive the price down.

Considering there are other BDs with fewer features and of lesser quality for that price -- there are even standard-def DVDs with lesser quality for that price -- $28 is a good price.

I have a problem around 36 mn (chapter 9 ?) (the short scene where Bill discussed with Sam Shepard) : the picture freezes, and it sounds like my blu-ray player was struggling to play it...
I had to press stop. I opened the tray, look to the blu-ray (no scratch, no dust... the surface of the disc looks fine). I didn't clean the disc.
I put the disc again, tried to play it again from the start, and it played fine, this time (no freeze, no pixels artefacts at the "reported" 47 minutes)...just fine

my guess is that there's something wrong with the first batch pressing of this Days of Heaven on blu-ray. Not bad enough to make the blu-ray unreadable, but enough to make some problems with some blu-ray players.

The problem is it freezes and the player acts like it is having trouble reading the disc and then it finally moves on to another chapter. Sometimes I can get it to play chapter 14 but it usually ends up going from chapter 13 to 15.
