Default Sony Blu-ray players with MKV support

Ok, i am not so familiar with licensing with codecs and stuff, but i know for a fact... that Sony BDP 370-570 ALL play MKV files with subtitles and no problems... so what is preventing sony from putting this feature into the ps3?

When the PS3 came out I don't think MKV files where as popular as they are now. So it was probably just something that didn't seem like a necessary feature to add. Whether a firmware update could remedy this is something I don't know.

However, MKV files can be easily and quickly converted to MT2S, which the PS3 does play. Google is your friend.
