Image had said they were preparing the original series for an eventual Blu-ray release. I'm guessing this is it. The '80s series was probably shot on video, so I don't think it would be a good candidate (and I seriously doubt anyone is that interested in the '80s revival, anyways).

Warner owns the rights to the 2000's UPN version.

Hmmmm.....this at least lends further credence to the rumor, but of course a blank Amazon pre-order page doesn't mean too much since they do that all the time for unreleased titles. I've held off from the DVDs for this reason, though.

What's the incentive for picking this up on blu? Will the picture quality be that much better than SD DVD? After all, it was filmed in B&W. I don't see the upside here...what am I missing?

You got that right! Check out The Third Man, or Casablanca, or A Christmas Carol, or It's A Wonderful Life, or for something modern, the first few minutes (the B & W portion) of Van Helsing.

When it's shot and transferred well, black and white can be incredibly sharp and detailed looking. Something about the contrast and shadow and really make the picture pop.

I wish I remembered where I saw those Blu-Ray and DVD comparison shots of "Night Of The Living Dead" to show you the benefits.

Anyway, I'll definitely get Twilight Zone when the price comes down.

I bought the complete set on DVD last year for $95. Even though it's one of my favorite shows ever, I'll be waiting for a significant price drop before I upgrade.

EDIT: I just realized that it doesn't specify whether it's the original series, the 1980's version, or the UPN version.
There is only ONE real Twilight Zone. That is the original series.

One of the keys here is that the show was shot on film. Since film has a much higher resolution than we can currently display on our home displays, it can be scanned and down-resed to 1080p.

OK, folks. I guess I am missing something. I just never thought B&W films had any benefit being transferred to blu.

I will upgrade my DVD sets for two reasons alone.

1. Durability and

2. With the Defenitive DVD Sets you cant "play all" on the disc. Its one episode at a time. I wish they would put the actual early Pilot in the set. The one Serling did in 57 or 58 about Pearl Harbor.

One of the best television show series in history IMO...But will definitely wait for the price to drop before considering a purchase.

Very cool! This is my all-time favorite TV show, so I can't wait to see it on Blu!

However..... I really hope there will be some sort of discount program for those of us that own all five seasons on DVD. I would absolutely LOVE to upgrade my DVD set to Blu, but I can't imagine being able to do it practically if I'm forced to sell my DVD set (Amazon, eBay, local DVD shop, etc.) and pay the expected $150-200 for all five seasons on Blu.

Anyone heard any word on such a discount program? I'm afraid that nothing like this will happen since we're talking about Image Entertainment who is reportedly hurting for money.....
Selina Kyle: "You don't owe these people any more. You've given them everything."
The Batman: "Not everything. Not yet."

Except for a half dozen epsiodes in the 2nd season whch were shot on videotape to bring down production costs and transferred to 16mm film for broadcast--picky, I know.

I wonder what kind of audio treatment the show will get for BD release?

Although it's my all-time favorite TV show I don't know if I spend enough time re-watching my DVD collection of the show to merit immediate upgrade. I dunno though...Walking Distance, Mr. Denton On Doomsday, Time Enough At Last, Perchance to Dream, The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, A Passage For Trumpet--there are some real gems in the first season, and at that price the cost is less than $2/episode.

I've been holding off of the series for a few years(price). The complete series in HD for $70?!?! This sounds too good to be true.
