What's with the rolling eyes emotion?

Is DTS-HD Master Audio not uncompressed audio?

I have begun season three, the season that caused me to quit in 2006.

Edit: My PS3 and Yamaha receiver both say DTS HD Master Audio. However, Linear PCM is shown for season three.

Another reason why Season 2 falls short for me.

[Show spoiler]Season two has its up and downs. I don't like Anna Lucia either. Mr. Eko gets on my nerves. "Fire + Water" is an episode I hate watching. "What Kate Did" is an episode where I fast forward through the flashbacks.

But I think the positives outweigh the negatives. The "others" concept is a good one and I love it when Ben is finally introduced. I love how he mind-rapes them all, especially Locke. A few simple words causes Locke to lose it in a fit of anger, something he claims he no longer goes through. A "Man of Faith" versus a "Man of Science" in a battle of control while the mastermind behind the fabricated problem sits in the pantry smiling. It's awesome.

I love the collusion between Sawyer and Charlie to make Jack and Locke look like fools. It was about time they stopped being perceived as heroes and leaders on the island.

"Maternity Leave" is one of the extremely few Claire episodes I enjoy. I like the change up in the flashbacks.

Of course, the destruction of the hatch is amazing and it's still creepy to hear "System failure" repeated while Locke realizes that he was wrong. Thank you, Ben,for screwing with him so much that he turns a complete 180 from the first few episodes of the season.

It's sarcastic because my copy is not defective although I won't be surprised if someone here thinks that and posts a silly reply telling me so. I once read on another message board where someone said that he bought a DVD and the picture was fuzzy. Someone replied and told him that he probably had a defective DVD, lol.

And DTS-HD Master audio is compressed, but has no loss in quality. If the back cover art says "Uncompressed," then that should mean that the audio is PCM, but it's not.

And yeah, my Season 3 BD is PCM, but it's not set as default. It keeps going back to Dolby Digital every time you load the disc. So annoying!

Thanks for the clarification. I just finished reading about it.

Edit: One thing I would like to know is why my season three set defaulted to the Dolby Digital track instead of the PCM. I have no idea how to rectify that.

Yeah, mine is like that to. As a matter of fact, I just edited my post and brought that up right after your replied. Unfortunately, there's no way to fix this. It's the way the BD was authored. We just have to keep setting it to PCM every time we load the disc. And brace yourself, the Season 4 BD is the same way. It has PCM, but keeps defaulting to DD.

I think season three looks better transfer-wise from the first two seasons. The grain structure appears to be overwhelmingly consistent compared to the previous seasons. I wish four episodes were on the discs instead of five, however.

You know, it's amazing how in Season 1, when Jack is shirtless, he's ridiculously hairy. Yet, in Season 4, he's completely hairless. I know Juliet shaved him before operating on him and all, but we see him hairless in a flash forward scene. Don't tell me it never grew back.

That's my least-favorite episode of Lost. It just makes me feel bad for poor Charlie. And, worst of all, all of the "I must baptiize this baby, no matter how crazy I look...!" stuff ends up going absolutely nowhere, with Claire inexplicably forgiving him for no reason by season's end. The next time I go through the series again, I'm gonna be skipping that one.

With all this rejuvenated banter about LOST, you guys have inspired me to watch this again. Still have around 150 unwatched movies, but, oh well, time for some more LOST. Just goes to show that this is an incredible series. Been a while since I watched it. Still can't make up my mind if I like this or Battlestar more. Both great shows so maybe I'll watch them back to back. There goes a month or two. Thank you guys.

I usually watch this show once a year, and I'm still catching new little hints and subtle clues every time, and this coming from someone who studied this show obsessively the first time. The dialogue hides quite a few subtle things that I missed the first few times around.

Yeah. I never noticed the "Widmore" toothpaste in season two. I found that hilarious

Actually, when you use Season Play, the audio stays at PCM when you change discs during the prompt.

Yes, but when you stop the disc and load it again and resume Season Play, it goes back to DD. At least that's the way it was when I tried Season 3. I didn't try Season Play on Season 4, so maybe that one stays at PCM when you use that feature.

I just finished it. Man, is it miles ahead in quality over season two. I really wish I had not stopped watching after "I Do." I think the experience would have been more rewarding had I continued throughout the years.

Overall, I like this season the most for now. The only episode I think is atrocious and can be completely skipped is "Exposé."

Spoilers for the season.

[Show spoiler]Back when "Through the Looking Glass" aired, a friend of mine told me about Charlie's death. I member being pissed about it even though the show was no longer a priority for me. It still pisses me off to this day that they did that. I've seen complaints about it being unnecessary, but it was: there would still be flashes of Charlie dying, so he'd never get peace. A counterargument is that Desmond's premonition was false regarding Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter. That is true. He likely lied to get Charlie to sacrifice himself.

On to season four.

Oddly enough, the reviewer on this site seems to think it's weaker than Season 2.

A lot of people (not my opinion personally), felt that through out the Third season, the writers were just treading water and had no clear vision of where the show was going to go. People also felt the Kate, Sawyer, jack storyline (
[Show spoiler]them being imprisoned
) was unnecessary and went nowhere.

I believe after this backlash is when they set an end date for the show. So they could focus the show and plot line. I may be wrong on that point though

That being said, I really enjoyed the third season

The entire plotline with the trio in season three was to
[Show spoiler]convince Jack to do Ben's surgery. Ben likely knew via Ethan that the three were connected in some way and the altercation with Tom and the others in "The Hunting Party" solidified it. If they treat Kate and Sawyer like dirt, they can play on Jack's feelings for Kate and her feelings for Sawyer to get him to comply with the surgery. At least that's how I look at it.

I personally thought the first part of season 3 wasn't as good as most of season 2. I wouldn't say the
[Show spoiler]imprisonment
storyline was unnecessary or that it went nowhere, but it did feel dragged out. I think this is also the first time we saw the main characters being split up for a long period of time, and I personally didn't feel the screen time was balanced enough between characters, and I felt this caused some pacing issues. (Whereas later in the season and into the later seasons, I didn't feel this stagnant pacing issue, even when characters were split up into several groups.) But the latter part of the season leading into the season finale really picked up pace and was really good. As I mentioned before, I think the last few episodes leading up to the season finale might actually be the best stretch of episodes in the entire series, though I personally like seasons 1 and 4 better as a whole.

As for "Exposé," I don't think it was actually a bad episode, even though the focus was on the two worst (and very unnecessary and unwanted) characters in the series. Ultimately, it was a 'filler' episode, but it was a dumb fun episode. I think people wouldn't give it as much flack if it didn't come off the heels of a major cliffhanger, lol. Anyway, I think there were several episodes that were worse, mostly from season 6.

I agree with you that season 3 is the best. However, not only would I throw Expose in the bucket of dung, but Stranger in a Strange Land would be right on top of it. Those episodes are about 2 characters that never mattered at all and a tattoo on Jack's arm, respectively. They are mostly pointless. Who cares about
[Show spoiler]Nikki and Paulo
up to that point? Stranger in a Strange Land isn't entirely pointless, but the backstory about Jack's tat is. Fortunately, those two episodes don't ruin the season or make it feel like something important could have been written in their place -- due to the strength of the season as a whole. Since the original airing of Expose, Carlton Cuse has admitted that he had no idea what to do with
[Show spoiler]Nikki and Paolo
once they were wrtten into the show. I haven't heard any explanation for Stranger's backstory.

Seasons 1 and 2 make a great pair, but 3-5 are the pinnacle of Lost.

6 had its' moments.

I agree here, though I'd say the last 7-8 episodes (certainly more than a "few").
