Default I am excited that I now have Planet of the Apes 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection

I have never seen Planet of the Apes or any of the sequels or the remake. Also I knew very little about these movies. I have a gift for being able to get a good idea if I am going to like a movie before I see it. I looked into the "Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection" online and I also looked into the 5 movies in this Blu-ray set and figured that this is something that I really want. I ordered it from Walmart and pick it up at Walmart yesterday (As I am typing this it's yesterday but since this thread will not submitted until after midnight it will be 2 days before this thread was submitted). The total price with tax was like $54. So this will be my first introduction to Planet of the Apes and it's 4 sequels. It's really neat that I have this nice collection with 5 movie on Blu-ray that I have never seen with tons and tons of bonus stuff

Well let's hope that you do like it. I've only ever seen the first one and that one was pretty good.

hope you like it as well. i grew up watching it on tv whenever it came on. my wife didnt see the need for me to get this set she thinks its stupid, but i enjoyed all of them although parts of one or two are a little corny.

edit: the only thing i didnt like was the way the discs are held in place. i ended up getting a multi disc case and printing out a cover.

I liked most of the movies, but the first and second are my favorites.

I might be dating myself, but I remember collecting Planet of the Apes bubblegum cards when I was a kid

I rank them:

PLANET
CONQUEST (very dark and sinister)
BENEATH
BATTLE
ESCAPE (good fun the first time, but too light, with dimishing returns, each time you revisit)

I've often commented that there are film series I value more (STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS come screaming to mind) but I've never encountered a series like this where, if I try to just watch one episode, I become biologically compelled to watch them all. I've never been able to view just one film in the series and walk away. They're like Lay's Chips..."bet'cha can't eat just one"!

+1 I can clearly remember the TV series and it was a family ritual to have TV Dinners that night so I could watch it while I ate. I had the Mego action figures as well as the playset too. See if this takes you back at all

Wonderful set! We got it a couple of months ago. I only knew the 1st film, but really enjoyed all of them. #2 was a little weak, but worth seeing -- and I was surprised how much I liked the others.

The 1st film is the only true classic, but the whole series is very enjoyable.

My rank:

1) PotA
2) Escape From PotA
3) Conquest for PotA
4) Battle for PotA (pretty much a tie with Conquest)
5) Beneath the PotA

OMG

I had these! Cornelius, Zira, Dr. Zaius, The Soldier Ape, and The Astronaut. I remember playing in the sandbox behind our house for hours at a time! Wow WoW WOW!. And when I had to come in from playing, I had the bubblegum cards to fantasize with. I always imagined that I was a scientist ape working with Cornelius and Zira, helping them to free The Astronaut. I even had a Statue of Liberty souvenir from a trip to New York that I liberally used in my playtime

Don't tell anyone, but I even glued a Brillo pad to The Astronaut's chest to make him look more like Charlton Heston!

Well I saw Planet of the Apes right after I made this thread. I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was a really good movie and I really got into it. To me the Apes really looked real. It's interesting how real the Apes from a 1968 movie looked about as real as if the movie would have came out today. I think since I got so into the story that this might be why the Apes (and everything else) seemed so real to me. I had some interesting dreams also and I think it's because I watched this movie before I went to sleep

There was something in this movie that I did not understand. So I went online and now I think I understand it. I also found out that this is based on a book that came out in 1963. So I plan to buy a copy of the book and/or buy an audio book of someone reading this book.

Well now I am going to look at some of the bonus stuff on the Planet of the Apes disc.

glad you enjoyed it.

this is one of my all time favorite film series. I even find myself watching the tv series from time to time.

The blu's were one of my first purchases when i got a ps3 even though i already had the ultimate collectors set on dvd.

On another not I can not wait for the new film that is in production right now.

Disagree -- Conquest is actually my second-favorite of the entire series, and is, in many ways, the "Empire Strikes Back" of the saga. Escape likewise has some deliciously dark, subversive moments that make it well worth the viewing.

Second what was said above about the BD disc-hubs in the mega-box, though -- they're a massive pain in the dick to pry loose from the flat surface in the inner case, especially if you've recently trimmed your fingernails or what-have-you.

The disc fastening system in this system is the worst designed in the history of the universe.

The movie set, however, is very entertaining. With the exception of the last one (which is still okay, but not the same quality) these are all first rate flicks regardless of their age.

I also got this Set last year. my favorite is the second film "Beneath" and "Battle" is cool.

The PQ and AQ are Fantastic IMO. I still want to get the Remake from 2000. even if its not as good and the classic's.

Are you talking about Rise of the Apes (aka Planet of the Apes: Genesis) due out in 2011?

3- BATTLE (underrated and overlooked)
4- CONQUEST
5- PLANET '01
5- ESCAPE (still an excellent movie)
