Which "Life" to get and why? (narrated by David Attenborough or Oprah Winfrey?)

I watched the entire Oprah version on Discovery. She is not a good narrator by any stretch. Solely picked as a marketing tool to sell more copies. Go with the superior BBC version.

I buy Oprah version as she is the superior speaker. She is the voice of America and is trained for television and speaks in a way that viewers can understand.

to be honest, and i reflect this on you in no possible way; so don't take offense; because Oprah is big in the US . (:P )

but when i first heard her, i thought she was talking to a bunch of grade 8s. :/ the tone is friendly i guess.

i for one, find david A's voice soothing, intelligent and vivid.
comparing his voice to - wild china, ganges, galapagos, yellowstone narrators,
his voice is superior.

Here is the dilio homes:

BBC Version:

- Original version
- Narrated by David Attenborough, who narrated almost every other nature documentary known to man
- Attenborough knows what he is talking about in regards to nature, it's his job.
- Everything except for plants is in 1080p. (Plants in 1080i)

US Version

- Took the BBC version and made a voice over with Oprah
- Oprah may have a soothing voice, but she isn't into documenting the documentary if you know what I mean. She isn't passionate.
- Version is all in 1080i



Other than that, everything else is basically the same aside from the boxart. Jesus Lizard cover on BBC, weird color vector on US version. I'm not going to tell you what version is better, you can decide that, but the BBC version is in 1080p.....(NOT PLANTS!!!)

Not true. As I mentioned before, the Oprah set has exclusive features - an 11th full episode, 18 minutes of deleted scenes complete with narration, and a "music only" audio track.

Now I don't think any of that matters, the Attenborough set is still of course the one to get, but it at least needs to be mentioned.

Bonus stuff is just basically what was in the show on Discovery, on how they were able to film parts of the episode

I think the 11th episode is just the small things at the end of each episode that aired after on Discovery, just a compilation.

But I was just talking about the documentary itself.

Both sets have the production diary bits about each episode that aired after each episode.

The Oprah set has a complete 11th episode called "The Making of Life" that is not on the Attenborough set at all. It also has 18 minutes of complete deleted scenes not in the Attenborough set. And then the "music only" track.

But I was just talking about the documentary itself.

Of course, me too. I don't see why anyone in their right mind would even consider the Oprah set even with the exclusive extras. The real reason to buy either version is for the main content of the show, and the only way to ever watch this show is with the Attenborough narration.

Voice of America? Speaks in a way viewers can understand? I must be missing something here. No offense person but this is one of the most out there things I've heard in some time.

If you speak English you should understand Attenborough just fine, he speaks in a way that viewers can understand, he is the voice of nature, trained for documentaries, a superior speaker....

If the choice was between a version narrated by Oprah and a version narrated by Gilbert Godfried, I would go with Gilbert.
