July 1 is a Thursday...not a likely release date.

Yeah that's why I knew it probably wasn't legit. I was thinking it's probably going to get a late august early September release.

Movies typically have a four to five month window between theatrical and home video release, so sometime in July isn't out of the question. I would say the very latest would be in August.

Maybe they are allowing it to be released early for the 4th of July weekend?

I went to it but never saw the ending, there was a blizzard in the area that knocked the power out of the theater with about 20 minutes to go, so obviously I'm really looking forward to the Blu release so I can see how it ends!
"...you should use your full name, I like that name.....Robin" Though Robin isn't a full name nor is it any of the Robin's actual names, David S Goyer, everyone! The "S" stands for Shitty Writer.

This was probably my favorite animated movie since The Incredibles. Absolutely cannot wait for this one.

I just want an official release date, hoping this comes with a gorgeous slipcover and a complementary DVD.

I wonder if they will release it in 3D or if they will release it in 2D now and 3D later like they did with Avatar?

I'm sure it will come with a nice slipcover. The DVD being included is probably a maybe. I would be surprised if they didn't do a retailer exclusive combo pack like they did with Monsters vs. Aliens, at the very least.

Hopefully a general 3D release will happen day to date

Dreamworks has already supported 3D Blu-Ray with Monsters vs Aliens and are pledging to even convert the first 3 Shrek movies for a Blu-Ray 3D release before years end. Unfortunitly all of there 3D catalog titles will be exclusively sold with Samsung hardware until at least March of next year. Monsters vs Aliens 3D has a 3D trailer for How to Train Your Dragon so a 3D release is definutely being planned the question is will it be another Samsung exclusive or a general release. Ive got my fingers crossed for a general retail 3D release. If not Ill hold off purchase which is something I don't want to do.

The movie by the way was probably Dreamworks best animated movie since The Prince of Egypt. While the story was a tad predictable it still had likeable characters, a good message, good animation, and didn't harrass the audience with pop culture references. Not as good as Up but it is one of the few non-Pixar movies that can stand toe to toe with Pixar quality wise.
