Jack Torrance.

Why? He could be you or me.

The scariest stories are always the ones where I think: "this could be me...holy sh&t"

Does the hero from a horror series count because if so i put a big vote down for Ash. If i can't say ash it's between these five i don't know which i would choose.
1.the Reaper form Jeepers Creepers
2.Peenywise the clown from It
3.Freddy
4.Ghostface from Scream
5.and the classic Norman Bates
Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures

Still, more than enough characters to choose from.
Just pick the one from the list that you like most.

If still you absolutely love someone who is not on this list, just click other and write him in your comment so we know.

It's hard not to pick Hannibal Lecter, but I manged to pull it off because, even to this day and after several specious sequels, Michael Myers freaks me straight the hell out.

Totally agree.

But if Freddy were somehow real, then I would pick him.

I voted for Dracula, but I considered the "OTHER" option (Blade, Ash).
top five films of 2012 --

1. Lawless (John Hillcoat)
2. Anna Karenina (Joe Wright)
3. Zero Dark Thirty (Kathryn Bigelow)
4. Cloud Atlas (Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski)
5. Not Fade Away (David Chase)
