I am also looking at the Denon avr1611 and avr1911. I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two other then the wattage. 75 as oppose to 90 watts per channel. Will I hear that much of a difference? I am planning on running Polk tsi400's and a cs20 with one of these. All speakers are around 125 watts RMS and 200 watts peak. There is a $200 price difference. What do you guys think? Would 75 watts be enough or should I spend 200 more for the 90 watts version?

I just purchased the 1611 and the differences between the two are the 1911 adds: -Connection with Ipod/Flash/HDD via front USB (On screen menu for iPod is very basic text and not some graphically pretty album view). -Analog upconversion to 1080p. -Video Selection ("allows you to select a different video source while listening to the current audio signal. This function effectively allows the user to do things such as listen to a DVD or CD while you browse the web on an HTPC [assuming you connect all video through the Denon's switching video inputs.]") -HD Radio tuner. -1 XLR input (though, I don't see this in the pictures on Denon's site, but Denon's lists it in the features, so... ???) -Two more analog inputs and an extra analog input for Zone 2 audio. If you just want to watch Blu-Rays in HD audio, then the 1611 is a great buy for a unit with Audyssey MultEQ. That is not to say the 1911 is bad deal... if you don't want to worry later, always buy the model with the best build/features within your budget PM me if you want to know where I got my authorized Denon from. I had order it from a place with cheap prices, but rude customer service, so I cancelled the order. Found a different retailer with the 1611 listed around 300 and the 1911 a bit under 400 (only 100 more) and this new retailer has been very friendly to deal with and reputable in web reviews. Highly recommended based on prices and customer service!... no, I don't work for them. Last edited by StevenPF; 10-19-2010 at 12:41 AM. |

Ok I need help as I am very confused. I just bought Seven Samurai on Blu-ray and I get no blue light (actually I can't tell if it is playing the audio properly) on dvdbeaver it states this...
*Regarding the track discrepancy - Criterion have replied to me: "The stereo surround track on our disc is indeed encoded as 2 channel linear PCM and should be DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0." That said, "The viewer's experience is essentially the same here. Both lossless codecs result in 2 channel linear PCMs being output to the receiver, the only difference being that the lossy DTS core of the DTS HD-MA stream (which viewers with older, non HDMI 1.3 equipped receivers would hear) carries a Dolby Pro Logic flag that triggers surround decoding of the stereo track by their receivers. Anyone listening to a lossless stereo surround (aka LT/RT, Dolby Pro Logic) track needs to manually engage Pro Logic decoding as PCMs can't carry that flag." What does this mean? How do I manually enguage Pro-logic decoding? Any help or insight would be appreciated!!

Hello
I just bought a Denon AVR-1611, I bought the receiver and I already installed it, but I am a newb with setting it up and I installed my blu-ray (Sony BDP-S360) to the receiver with an HDMI cable, and for some reason I can't get the receiver to display DTS HD or Dolby True HD when I try to playback any disc. clearly I am screwing something up, but I have no idea what yet P.S.: tried replying here because it says my accound does not have priviledges to start a new thread and I don't know how to fix it |

and select "Bitstream" for the digital HDMI Audio Out. * And make sure your Denon AVR-1611 receiver is set for "Auto" audio mode, and not another audio mode like "Dolby Pro Logic IIx" or "Direct" or "Pure Direct" or "Stereo" or any other audio mode. ** And simply let your Blu-ray disc play the high res audio soundtrack from it (with some BDs you'd have to select those; DTS-HD MA, or Dolby TrueHD, or Multich PCM, manually yourself). ~ Let me know if it does the trick. Happy Halloween! |

I am debating between getting polk tsi400's or Energy CF50. I want to run them with a Denon AVR1911 that's 90 watts per channel. Will this be enough to properly power these speakers? The polks are rated at 200 watts RMS and the energy's are 250 watts RMS.

The Denon 1911 will do fine to power either of those speakers.

Energy, PSB, Paradigm, Monitor Audio all make speakers in that $600-1000 price range that are just better then Polk or klipsch speakers. At least that is my opinion. Im sure many other would agree as well. And some Klipsch and Polk owners would disagree. And that is not to say that polks/klipsch are bad, but they tend to have less detail in the mid-range, they can be more harsh and grainy in the highs, and the bass isn't as tight sounding. Bass needs to have snap not boom. Thing is, we all like what we like. You may prefer one over the other. I did not bring this up to you, but as you can see I am selling my speakers. If you dont mind mint condition used speakers I would send/sell you mine, a 5.0 setup for less than you will pay for just the towers. My speakers fwiw perform on the level of the CF-50s. You can look at my gallery and check them out if you want. I upgraded Significantly, which is why I am selling them. Wife doesn't want a bedroom setup, so they must go.

Actually the process is fun. You will be surprised at the differences you hear and appreciate more of what you selected instead of wondering after you have bought it. Main Theater Setup:

My wife bought me an early Xmas present, man this things kicks butt for only 75 watts per channel, I owned an old Sony STR-DE595 receiver ( circa 2004)
and it doenst sound half as good as this one! Yes I know that the THD is .08% so that's part of it , but the clarity of voices and sounds are superb, my ears are having a feast! I played the Rambo Extended Blu Ray DTS-HD Master and I got goose bumps! Now I only have a 10 x 12 area, so it is more than enough power for me!
