Taken was a thoroughly entertaining action flick. There wasn't much of a story, it was really just an excuse for 90 minutes of Liam Neeson beating people up, but it was executed very well.

I haven't seen Edge of Darkness but the trailers looked awful, I heard it was one of the worst movies ever, and Mel Gibson is pathetic and shouldn't be supported.

My two cents.

Yeah, i hear ya. Just last night they were saying something in the news about him blabbing away with some racial comments again. I will skip buying that movie - Edge of Darkness.

He told the mother of his love child she was "going to get raped by a pack of (racial slur)" and that he was, and I quote, "going to burn the f****** house down, but you WILL blow me first".

And you won't be disappointed with Taken, very fun movie.

+1 HAHA

Definitely Taken. I haven't seen Edge of Darkness and don't ever plan to. I've never liked Mel Gibson in the first place so there's no desire to see any of his movies.

While there are similar themes, the two are actually quite different overall. But when choosing one or the other, Taken is definitely the better of the two in my opion.

Whoever told you Edge of Darkness is one of the worst movies ever clearly hasn't seen many movies. It isn't a great film, but it's certainly not a terrible one either. It's a fairly average movie that I think is worth watching at some point and time if someone doesn't have anything else to do (although I wouldn't particularly recommend a purchase unless someone really loved the flick). But it's definitely not worth watching/buying over Taken.

I say separate the art from the artist. Gibson's acting and directing are top notch in almost everything he does (and his acting in Edge of Darkness is quite good), so I'm going to enjoy that for what it is. His off-screen antics aren't going to stop me from enjoying a perfectly fine movie that he's in or a good performance that he gives. I've said the same thing about Sean Penn and Roman Polanski for years, and it now applies to Mel Gibson as well.

I'm a fan of Mel Gibson he has done some great acting in his films, but Edge of Darkness it just never done it for me. I watched it once and sold it on Ebay.
Taken I can re-watch again and again.....

Oh come on, it is most certainly terrible.

I'm losing a lot of faith in Monahan's writing ability. Kingdom of Heaven was pretty good, but the movie centered around the most boring character(Balian) instead of it's most interesting(Baldwin). The Departed is a remake of a HK film trilogy, where his only new idea was an ill-concieved love triangle. Body of Lies was good, but something was lacking as I couldn't quite connect fully with the main character. And now we get Edge of Darkness, the first revenge thriller without any revenge or many thrills. NTM, that the comedy is terrible, specifically a running joke about everything being illegal in Massachusetts just to comepletely drop the ball the one time it may have actually been funny(when the lawyer gets in his car). IDK whose idea the ending of the film was, but seemed completely out of place.

I agree that it was a let down overall given the potential that it had, but terrible = Meet the Spartans. When looking at it from that frame of reference, Edge of Darkness isn't terrible. The thing that kept me entertained with Edge of Darkness was Gibson. His accent was iffy, it was his acting that keep it going. I completely agree on Body of Lies.

Exactly. Horrible people can create great art, and great people can create horrible art.

Anyway, as everyone else has said quite eloquently, Taken is a great movie. Can't go wrong.

I was being sarcastic, hence the emoticon. You must admit that Edge of Darkness isn't the revenge thriller it's advertised to be. It's more like a police procedural, and not a particularly good one at that. There is what one action set-piece in the whole film?

I think it's a decent connect-the-dots muder mystery that is elevated by Gibson's performance, but you'll get no argument from me on it not being what it was advertised to be. It certainly isn't the action revenge thriller that the trailer and the commercials tried to sell.

Aside from comparing the main actor's 'off the screen,' Taken is definitely the better choice, let alone if you do compare them, you still end up with Taken.
