I thought no one would ask.

Hold on let me locate some pics. Here's a clue, it is named after a famous racetrack.

Hmm, let me think... Named after a racetrack... What is the Rolex Daytona, Alex?

Did I get it? I even phrased my answer in the form of a question.

Okay you are today's jeopardy champion.

On our road trip last week I already planned on checking out the new Submariner in some authorized dealers in Oregon and Washington. Maybe it was fate, the first shop we visited in Eugene, Oregon had the Submariner and lo and behold the Daytona! The Submariner is usually available but the Daytona is pretty rare, only 2 pieces per dealer per year and dealers usually have a long waiting list. Anyways I was trying on both watches (not really planning to buy right then and there as I was initially shooting for a Submariner as a Christmas gift for myself) when my wife asked if I wanted the Daytona as an anniversary gift. I was speechless for minutes!!! I asked her a few times if she was serious and she was. Being my dream watch how could I say no. Now our anniversary is not until October so to be fair I will wait until then before I actually wear it. Let's see if I have the discipline.

Well here is a close up pic of the Daytona:

In the mean time I will continue to enjoy my sapphire sandwich:

On the downside, I now have to up the ante and buy her a bigger rock.

Eric, both are beautiful time pieces. Congrats on the Anniversary gift. I still think that the Rolex is overrated, but the Daytona is breathtaking! Congrats again.

Good morning guys and thank you. Just ecstatic that I finally got something I've coveted for many years. These time pieces will be passed on to my son, when he deserves and is old enough to appreciate them.

Way cool, MU! That's a gorgeous timepiece. They're both gorgeous timepieces. But don't wait until Oct. to wear it. Put it on, and get down. Let's see some MU-Daytona-action pics!

TGIF Eric. Extremely handsome time piece your wife bought you. And you are right about a watch of that caliber becoming a family heirloom. Come on now, we all know you slipped that watch on already when no one was looking.

Thanks Wabo, I knew we had similar tastes.

I'm itching to wear it even just for a weekend but I'm trying my best not to give in.

I really liked the idea of an heirloom and that definitely was a factor in my decision to get it. My son is only 6 now and I've heard him say "You've got nice watches dad." Maybe he will deserve them some day.

I did try it on at home. But for now it's imprisoned inside a watch winder.
