Default Hunt for Red October - new cover art just the same content?

I recently picked up a used Hunt for Red October with the old art - the red/black with Connery. Now I see it's available with an entirely different (uglier) cover in full color featuring both Connery and Alec Baldwin.

Is the disc itself the same? Or have they remastered anything or added extras?

Default Is The Hunt For Red October worth purchasing?

I've read mixed reviews on the quality of the transfer and was curious what everyone's thoughts were. I read the picture quality is fantastic, but also that it tends to be soft. Any opinion would be helpful. Thanks!

The picture is a bit soft and there is definitely some noise, but overall I'm very happy with my BD. It looks much better than the DVD, so I would say that it's worth purchasing.

Is it noise or is it grain? Some people misconstrue one for the other.
The original posters question holds zero precidence for me since I intend to purchase the two remaining Jack Ryan features on Blu-ray since I already sold them on DVD ages ago.
Only thing I'm wondering if there's a four disc Viva case custom cover for the four Jack Ryan films. I doubt it.

Of course. Along with this, DAS BOOT, K*19, U-571, there ought to be more submarine films on Blu-ray disc format.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

I thought it was a little grainy but it was a lot better than the DVD the True HD won't knock your socks off but it's good.

WTF I forgot Crimson Tide?! Great Tony Scott film by the way. $16 isn't bad but myself I'd wait for the price to go lower.

I reviewed it when it was released and its much better than the DVD. The downside is that K19 is extremely grainy and this is much more evident on the BD. It's more than worthy of a double dip though.

If you find one, please let me know. I also transferred my 4 Jack Ryan's to one case, and I would love to get a nice looking custom cover to fill the sleeve.

OP: Yes, the disc is good. I think that I picked up my copy for around $10 and it was well worth the purchase.

Definitely worth having in the collection. The sound track alone is to good to pass up.

Graininess is a downside for a film transfer? If anything that should be a benefit and not a detractor. Same goes for Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report and several other titles which are heavily grainy. Somebody ought to make a thread with transfers which look nothing like the film it's meant to. I'd even list International alternatives compared to North American only releases.

I just have the two I own right now in Disc 2 and 3 in a 4-Disc DVD case. With two hubs on each side. I was considering buying some 4-Disc Viva cases in the same vein as The Magnificent Seven Collection as the Vortex spines would take up far too much space. If I owned the OSTs on CD I'd've already used 2-Disc Vivas for each one and have the OSTs along with booklet be in the second disc spot.
But I'm in no big rush buying The Hunt for Red October and The Sum of All Fears immediately, unless if I see them for a good price range for purchasing.
