i'm thinking the force field 5 will be out of my price range. the 4 is already kinda pushing it with shipping and everything because i'd eventually like to run two identical subs. how would you say the 4 compares to the outlaw LFM-1 EX, Epik Legend or maybe the Rythmik FV12?

I would say it is as good as the ones you have mentioned. A little higher end maybe? The LFM1-Plus is one i have been considering as my 4th sub. I think that the LFM1 EX isn't really worth the extra $100.
The FF4 is a smaller enclosure that dips down to i believe 16hz and is a 1200 watt dsp sub. Where the LFM1 EX is not. This means that the ff4 will probably operate faster and more accurately. The Rythmics look nice. I believe they are on sale right now as an introductory offer. You can buy them in pairs as well. I believe it is the Epik legend that is the cheaper of the two, but i might be wrong? Go to the rythmic thread and see what those owners say. The ff4 will perform as well as those subs certainly, but i bet it will actually outperform them. Sandy Gross isn't making a product that is cheap or good enough. He is making products that are reasonably priced but that perform like high end equipment. And in the case of the Triton II's better than a lot of the highend until you hit the 50K range. Confirmed by hometheaterreview.com and soundandvision.com Anyways check it out, go listen to it and then decide. Your ears will tell you what sounds best. |

I have used ARC multiple times with various GET theaters and it works great, with a couple of caveats. First off, the 120Hz for the 50C is correct in a Triton-based system. Secondly, ARC is not good with ribbons and electrostats so change the default HF limit to half of the 5000 Hz default when using ARC on the GoldenEar speakers. Lastly, with Tritons, you need to run ARC with the woofer section volume control set for a "flat" response (usually around 10 o'clock position on the dial). Run ARC and then adjust the bass level control to taste.

Coach,
I originally set my 50C at 70Hz. It seemed to sound weaker as if it was set at a lower level, even thou it was calibrated at the 75dB as the Tritons and surrounds. I reset it to 100Hz and everything opened up nicely. My front sound stage is now huge and homogeneous. Even thou the 50C is designed to be on-wall, in my system, I found that it sounds quite a bit better being out from the wall. DG |

Things have improved some since the first run of ARC. Ultimately I have moved the center to the back of my entertainment center(see pic), which is working right not.
My next step is run some A/B comparisons with and without my subwoofer to see if that will help the performance overall... These speakers are the trickiest I have had so far when it comes to calbrating... |

I'm using the Audyssey in my Marantz AV7005. I have my center and rears at 100hz and the Tritons at large. I'm really enjoying the Goldenear's. The Mirage were great but I feel that with the omnipolar technology you have a huge soundstage but lack some detail and nuances in the sound. The Goldenear's are very clear, detailed and dynamic. I'm just using the subs in the Tritons. Just using speaker wire and no LFE as Sandy Gross recommends. Subwoofer is set to no in audyssey.

Glad you are enjoying them so much. Did Audyssey set your center at 100hz or did you override that?
Ultimately, I think I will end up going with out a subwoofer and just use the subs inside the Tritons...but will run some tests before deciding on that. Where are your sub levels set on the Tritons? |

I'm wondering myself how the Forcefield subs compare to other subs from ID companies. The Forcefield 4 looks like a he'll of a grab, at the same price point as other good Internet subs. But I bet no one has compared them side to side yet.

If you run ARC it sets the High Frequency limit at 5000 Hz by default. You want this no higher than 2500 Hz for the GoldenEar speakers. I've only run ARC in "manual" mode, could be this setting box doesn't come up in the auto (default) mode.

What should I have the Triton's crossover at with them being set to large? I have my sub level on both Triton's at 9 o'clock and audyssey sets my tritons at 110 or 120hz with them at large. Any thoughts?

I will play around with this setting. It looks like you can adjust it in the Target window after you run ARC and then re-calculate it. Most of the folks in the AVS forum feel that changing this doesn't do anything, but I am willing to give it a try.

Hey, so, when is the ForceField 5 being released? And for how much? Trying to decide ifvthat should be my new sub instead of the SVS.
