Wow, I did not know this was coming out. My fond memories of it force me to watch it around every Christmas.

I cant wait to get this on Tuesday from Amazon it is one of my favorite Christmas Classics from Rankin Bass. I watch it a few times each Christmas season. With this and the other rankin Bass collection being released on Oct. 12th its great to finally see some rankin Bass come to blu-ray

I might have to end up getting this at some point - though not on release date, I'm already buying 4 BDs on the 5th. The snow and heat misers are the best things ever!

Haha, I was actually thinking about that. I don't remember anything else about it, and it wasn't that long ago that I last watched it.

quite true! I actually saw this about 5 years ago, and to be honest, the only thing I remember, other than the 'Misers,' was that Santa Claus was sick

. I do remember enjoying it though, and recall it being one of the better Rankin-Bass Christmas features.

Anyone get the movie and view it yet? This is my favorite Rankin Bass special. Not sure what the specs are: 1080p? Any enhancements or just a simple transfer from the DVD?

Just posted the BACK COVER art at top of this page.

with specs noted. **Looks to be DD 5.1 for main feature. Other bonus shorts seem to be MONO 1.0. I kind of expected uncompressed DTS like the Charlie Brown BLU releases. It isn't a huge deal breaker for me on this type of release. It should be lossless WB's!

seriously, this was always one of my favorites growing up, and I got the dvd last year.
I must admit it didn't hold up quite as well as I remember, but it still has some great scenes.
Rankin-Bass specials are the epitome of X-mas in my house as far as the TV specials I remember and cherish the most.
I'm really surprised this one came out before "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town"
that one is the best imo.

EDIT: I see now that SCICTT is coming out this month also.

I love Rankin & Bass stuff, but no way am I buying this one since the other features (Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey, etc.) are in SD!!

Best Buy is not stocking it in store, and I'd imagine most other places won't be either (and if they do, probably not until around or after Thanksgiving). Best bet would probably be to purchase it online at this point.

Wow, I'm surprised it was there! I don't have a Sam's Club membership, but now I wonder what other stores might be carrying this? All I know is that Best Buy isn't (or at least not now, maybe more stores will stock it around the holidays)...
