Sleeping Beauty.

Pristine artifactless transfer with perfect levels of color, contrast, detail, depth, etc. (something one should come to expect from Disney's animated titles, but this one is the best of the lot). Plus it's a 70 mm film in technicolor 3 strip so you get a film source with the best resolution and color vibrancy.

it wouldn't be 3 strip in '59.
the last 3 strip was around the middle of the decade.

I'm not sure this qualifies or not but over at dvdbeaver there's a review for the upcoming Criterion edition of the Blu-Ray for "The Sweet Smell of Success". The reviewer there was saying this Blu-Ray was probably gonna end up being his pick for best Blu-Ray of 2011.

Blade Runner.

That movie is the most Impressive thing I have seen to date In HD, Yes things like avatar and transformers look great but then I would expect them too.

Blade runner is like 30 years old and the Picture is simply stunning and this Blu-ray should be in every collection.

The Berlin Concert. I'm not that much into opera but holy crap the PQ is stunning.
2695 titles on disc... of those, 17 are LaserDisc, 1067 are Blu-Ray, 80 are in 3D. My avatar shot was just taken last September with a 200.00 Nikon. Shows what a cheap camera can do.

I checked that list, every tier, and didn't see Criterion's edition of The Leopard anywhere.

I would recommend Avatar, Speed Racer and a few oldies that are excellent, The African Queen, Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz.

A close second behind Avatar as far as animation PQ goes would definitely be "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." The detail of the animation in that movie is just stunning, especially in the slow-motion sequences...

The Picture Quality Tiers is made up entirely of scores and reviews from contributors according to a strict grading standard. Sadly, Criterion's version for "The Leopard" has not been assigned a score yet. But anyone can review a disc for placement in the PQ Tiers, so it may just pop up soon.
