So far, the level of quality with the Shout Factory blu's has me impressed. Humanoids from the Deep had gorgeous artwork in the package and on the disc. Of course the transfer was fantastic as well.

Horror Express will be a day one buy.

I am a big fan of Italian Horror (Giallo), hope to see you guys produce some top quality blu's!

Even so, I can understand something like a blu-ray being in the $20 range especially if some real honest-to-god work was done on the print and extras. Regardless, when you start hitting the $20 range (and higher), people are going to expect a lot to justify the cost. Same with the movie title itself (and keep in mind that a LITTLE DNR goes a long way.. it is when you start hitting PATTON levels of DNR that it starts to become a problem. Example: DJANGO. While I do love the great amounts of detail, SOME DNR could have been used, especially during specific scenes where there was what looked like pulsating snow throughout the image; B.U. definitely could have spent some time on quality control and watched a test disc to watch out for errors such as those [example would be right before Django pops out his coffin surprise on the gang in the town square]).

CODE RED is currently hitting some financial problems to the degree where it sounds that they are on the verge of going under.. which is a real shame, as they canceled their release of RITUALS (which I was REALLY looking forward to) and may not come out now. I don't know what to say in regards to keeping out of that situation other than polling customers as far as what titles they really want. Even then, Code Red did that with SLITHIS and have only sold 435 copies so far (they said they needed to sell something like 2000 to break even).

Even so, I wish you luck and hope to see some really weird stuff!
If you buy the bundle from Shout Factory direct, you can get all 7 for $99 ~ $14 a pc, no tax and free shipping.

Thank you for all of the comments!

This is a really nice forum here (I signed up today for the first time )

We look forward to answering any questions you may have about Midnight Legacy and it's releases.

The more European cult films that make it to Blu-Ray is better for all of us. I look forward to the upcoming slate of genre releases on other labels as well.

Welcome the boards! After reading your blog on the website, I have a new found respect for the amount of work you are putting into this release.

Any word on a release date? This site states Fall 2010. I see the teaser in the last post the best is yet to come...can't wait for future announcements.

The exact release date will be pinned down next week, but certainly expect it in mid November.

Why release this film as your first release? It's pretty bottom-of-the-barrel euro-cult. Good luck with it though. Can never have enough cult DVD companies.

After watching Cinema Snob's review this film looks awful. Not like a so bad its good awful, but just awful. Maybe I'm missing something? I still admire what your trying to do and I wish your company much success.

I really like this film alot and that is part of why it is our first release. You can't really judge these obscure films until you see it yourself and make up your own mind. Alien 2 On Earth - it just may grow on you!

And remember that The Cinema Snob was using a battered VHS edition which was apparently taken from a Digibeta source, and it didn't even have the true title of the film (the "2" was obscured and replaced with "Terror", making the title "Alien Terror") and was also missing scene extensions that this version will replace, so it's very likely that the film will be "better" in every way on the Midnight Legacy Blu-ray Disc.
"You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment."

So are all releases from this company going to be with red cases or is it just this one?

Exactly. You really won't be able to judge this film based on the review from the chopped up, bootleg reviews you read. The cuts will probably make the story more coherent and the PQ will be much improved - adding to the overall enjoyment of the film.

Alien 2 makes Contamination look like Ridley Scott's, Alien. Just horrible.

Thanks for the link! While they do charge tax (total comes to $105.99), that's still $15.14 per title, which is still pretty damn good!

Regardless, here are a few titles to consider for blu-ray release, Baraka X:

RITUALS (I know CODE RED was working on it, but they just announced that they are closing shop... which means that all the work they did won't be released. Maybe you could talk to them about finishing what they started)

THE NIGHT EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE (per an earlier suggestion)

LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM (don't know what the rights issues are, but unlike THE DEVILS [where Warner Brothers are being real dicks in that they won't release it properly, but won't let Criterion or anyone else lease the rights either] you may have some luck doing something with it).

INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN (with maybe the option of including the MST3K audio track, if they let you. Regardless, MGM may have the rights [and they do need the money right now] but it has been released on a PAL 16x9 dvd in germany. Looks pretty damn good too!)

I could go either way with the red case: it would make your stuff stand out, which will make it easy to spot in a big blu-ray collection; at the same time, most customers like conformity when it comes to cases and case sizing (hence the complaints about the digibooks, which I love - though they could have made them the same height as blu-ray cases).

Also, would it be okay if you could do like Sony and print artwork on the inside of the blu-ray covers (even if it is monochromatic blue, like the Sony blu-ray case artwork)? Leaving it white like Warners, Universal and Paramount just comes across as cheap.

Movies like FLESH GORDON, GIANT SPIDER INVASION, ALIEN FACTOR (among others) are already licenced by VCI, Retromedia and Hen's Tooth (who knows when they will start releasing their stuff on blu), but again, this would probably be a good place to ask fellow threaders what they would really like to see.

Okay, here are a couple more: have you considered anything like BELLADONNA OF SADNESS (japanese anime, but more arty/horror from the 1960s) and SWEET HOME (essentially japanese Dario Argento - and I mean SUSPIRIA Dario Argento)? I would KILL to have SWEET HOME on blu!

I know you may want to focus on specific genres (or genre singularly), but just seeing uniquely cool or wierd movies that no one seems to care about putting out would be fantastic.

Yes, because clarity can change everything! I picked up the French DVD of Starcrash. I can safely say that I was not impressed. Sourced from what looked like an actual exhibition print, colors were muddy and dull. Sound on the English track was even worse.

My opinion of the film changed greatly when Shout released their beautifully restored version. Looks are very important when it comes to a film. I can't wait to see Midnight Legacy's transfer of Alien 2.

Added spoiler to shorten the post, but all Great suggestions! Again, I'd like to see The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave, I know NoShame released a serviceable DVD a few years back.

Also, Another one I just saw which I enjoyed was Lady Frankenstein (1971). Possibly Vampire Lovers?

Keeping coming to the forums and you guys will never run out of suggestions for future releases.

I asked a question in the Midnight Legacy Insider thread, but it seems to have been deleted.

Anyway, I'll be an enthusiastic supporter of Midnight Legacy and hope to see some films by Joe D'Amato, Jess Franco, Umberto Lenzi etc. released on blu.

Thank you for your support, and you will see films by at least two of those directors!
