Default Apocalypse Now or Yojimbo/Sanjuro Criterion?

I can only pick one because I have $45 to spend and that's it for right now. Which would you pick and why?

It depends on your tastes but for longevity I say go for Apocalypse since it has two cuts of the film and a ton of extras.

Yohimbo/Sanjuro has much more replay value IMO.

If I only had $45 for right now to spend on a movie, I'd save my money and buy one of them when I wasn't on a budget

Yojimbo/Sanjuro is the definite choice here. Two films, both epic, and to boot you've got the quality of Criterion.

...where are you finding the set for $45?

If you can wait until Barnes and Nobles next Criterion sale, you can pick Yojimbo/Sanjuro up for just over $30, assuming it is the same price it was earlier this year. Might be worth waiting until November for that price.

Second this. Get Apocalypse Now... well... now, and get the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set when it's on sale.

That's like Sophie's Choice. You can't go wrong either way. Flip a coin and then save your $$$ to get the other one ASAP.

Yojimbo is one of my fave movies, I've even just purchased a multiregion BD just to get the Criterion blu as my R1 Criterion dvd is looking really bad these days.

Anyone from the UK who is after the Criterion Yojimbo or Thin Red Line should check out playusa.com the prices are really cheap compared to anywhere else for them 2 titles.

As far as what to buy, having never seen Sanjuro I think I would opt for the Criterions, although Apocalypse is a pretty much unmissable film, and its easier to get your other half to view than a 50 year old b&w Japanese classic

I'd wait on both. Purchase Yojimbo/Sanjuro at Barnes & Noble in November during their sale and purchase Apocalypse when it comes down in price.
The Alamo, Black Rain (Jp), Far from the Madding Crowd, Gray Lady Down, The Incredible Shrinking Man, Interrupted Melody, Lust for Life, Mississippi Burning, Moby Dick (Gregory Peck), The Other Sister, Ryan's Daughter, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Sink the Bismarck, Swing Kids, Testament, Them, They Died With Their Boots On, The Thing from Another World, War of the Worlds (Orig.) & When Worlds Collide
