Default The 'Burbs - Bring the love universal!

So..friends.

I watch this movie almost once a month on its quite mediocre (in this HD age) DVD transfer, and I listen to the full soundtrack on my IPOD at work most nights around other memorable score and regular music.

Logic tells us that with it's 1989 production date, should have put a possible 2009 20th anniversary special edition of this with a remastered treatment on bluray to mark that occassion.

That time came and gone. Unsatisfied hardcore fans of the lackluster previous releases on DVD - even came up with their own unofficial special features during 2009 with writer, director and some select cast. http://fancoredaily.com/?p=748

========================

So the fans who adore this movie wait...skeptical that without a "special" time element (said above 20th anniversary edition) or a fan drive to demand a worthy product, this title will just be treated by universal with the same disstain as the DVD release. A bargain basement transfer with 5.1 dolby lossy, and likely no special features except perhaps an HD trailer.

This movie and its loyal fans who created a "burbs day" annually in recent years, deserve much more and would flock to walmarts and best buys across the US and targets and kmarts worldwide for a first day buy (no matter the cost) of a QUALITY remastered and empassioned package of the cult classic.

My wish is to see vibrant colors, amazing clarity, and a DTS MA that makes this movie pop out from its "quirky comedy" persona into a powerhouse of 80's remasters. Burbs fans must make it known we want the best we can get from this 1989 picture! Universal - heed the call!!

Thank you.

I just watched this movie today, upscaled DVD onto my bluray setup. Bluray player + 50 inch neoplasma with 5,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast. For the first time.

Totally looks kickass compared to last month on my 37inch LCD.

It really amped me up for seeing a good transfer to 1080p.

Can someone please tell me the a)contact emails for universal and b)whoever auths and distributes universal blurays in australia? I want to contact both and anyone I can to request this title

I asked Joe Dante himself and he said that Universal have no interest in this film. That coupled with their terrible release history for catalog stuff on Blu Ray means...we're never getting it.

That unfortunately seems to be the case with most of Dante's movies. While he wants to do special editions of his work, the studios simply aren't interested.
Look at Matinee. A wonderful movie, that just got an anamorphic DVD release a couple of months ago.
Blu-ray releases should be perfect representations of their cinema counterparts.

no offence but this is strange to assume the fans cant change that weird stigma...just call and email universal. That is what i would do once a month if i got the right numbers/email. Every 'burbs fan does this and they will take notice of the potential.

The fans haven't done enough in the past it seems.

There would have to be at least a million people who love this title, yet where are their voice. Sitting hoping a studio changes its ways without them actively calling for it is certainly wasted hopes I would agree.

Cimemax was showing it in HD all the time last year, not BR quality, but good nonetheless. It's a shame that studios like Universal don't give any time to smaller titles. Look at the cast list and tell me this can't be marketed in this day and age.

The Burbs is one of Tom's best movies besides Saving Private Ryan and The Money Pit!

Lobby universal!

That's what I been doing :P Email nagging

Who knows if it will be influential. I still think it's grossly unfounded how much they seem to disregard the title.

Agreed. They should do the remaster, put out a new trailer that beefs the hell out of the content - promote the cast list and that it's a "quirky dark 80's comedy starring tom hanks, from the production company of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer"

An HD clip vs an HD upscale clip.

Maybe the upcoming fall releases of Halloween 2 and 3 bode well for their horror back catalog (and they have a great one).

I think he/she meant it more as in goofy not cheesy/so bad it's good like a Troll 2 or Troma type film.
