great news!
Dassin is awesome; I have all 5 Criterions releases. Gaumont is the best, but this might not have English subs because of the Criterion rights. hopefully it won't be an issue, but I have to admit I'm thinking it will be. Last edited by Arkadin; 11-20-2010 at 09:28 PM. |

I can't help but notice the countless little known and classic titles that are readily available in Europe but non-existent in the U.S. including "Rififi". There are even American made films available on Blu-Ray in Europe and not here! (Example "Touch of Evil", soon to be released "Double Indemnity".) Shows the clear appreciation for art and genuine film making that people overseas have and the lack-there-of in the states.

We have some english movies you don't have, but you have for 4 years now The Wages of Fear in a wonderful HD release, while we are still stuggling to have a decent DVD release (and this is one of many). We could draw the figures : I tried once, and it was showing that, in the end, France and USA were on par. I just want to remind that Gaumont release about 3 films every 2 months, Carlotta one every 2 months, and Aventi 2 or 3 every months (with a quite variable quality). Criterion alone release about 5 movies every month. Guess the "clear appreciation" isn't that clear. |
