“I asked [co-director Robert Rodriguez] when he was going to write it and he says it’s written, so we can get started pretty quick”, said Trejo, according to The Press Association.

“I don’t even think Robert Rodriguez even expected that reception and now everyone is waiting for Machete 2 so hurry up Robert Rodriguez!” Danny laughed.

With Rodriguez’s slate, not to mention how long it took to get the first [reasonably-cheap] “Machete” off the ground, I think it’s safe to say it could be quite a few years before we see the intestine-swinging vigilante again.

If it's made inexpensive enough like the first it'll hopefully go to theaters like the first one I don't see it by passing theaters, at least not here

The first didn't do that great though, it's hard to make a company promote and distribute your movie if they know it won't make a whole lot of money.

Seeing as "MACHETE" only cost $10.5M to make & grossed a bit over $36M (US: $26.5M, Foreign: $9.5M, + DVD/Blu-Ray sales), it seems like #2 Could do the same.

It made enough I think. I mean honestly, I don't think they could have terribly expected too much out of it considering it was a spin-off of a failing, albeit brilliant, film from a few years before. At least that's how I would have seen it I consider ourselves lucky we even got this movie!

I hope it will make it to the theaters. I can't wait for Machete BD and would love to see Machete Kills, and Machete Kills Again.

Anything it makes on Blu and DVD should be pure profit. So it would definitely help it's chances I think.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Machete has made a worldwide gross of $36 million off of $10.5 million. Even with television and rentals, this film was a profit for Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios, Fox, and Sony (who purchased most international rights for the film). I can see Machete Kills going theatrical, unless Rodriguez pulls a dick move and has them all go straight to video like the sequels to From Dusk Till Dawn.

I loved the movie, dont get me wrong, but it was a thin idea to begin with. Cult movies just dont tend to sequel well.

If they do a good job, I'm in. Machete is my favourite movie this year (despite the weak ending). I will also buy it on blu as long as the transfer is good.

That being said, I'm not going to get my hopes up. It is expensive to distribute and promote a movie, and even if it was made on the cheap one wonders if it did well enough...

Of course, it was well received so it could have momentum if they don't take too long (*cough* Sin City *cough*).

I could see this being very good still though. Honestly, more Machete kicking ass and taking names is good enough for me. I'm sure I'll have a great time at the theater if it's even half the movie that the first one was
