Can we get some reviews for some Canadian releases? I would like to see reviews for Halloween Triple Feature and A Man Apart and Running Scared Double Feature if possible, please.

C'mon Svet, cite some examples of this: "Alliance's decision to reframe It's All Gone Pete Tong from its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 to 1.78:1 is extremely disappointing as there are portions of the film that are practically unwatchable."

The image definitely deserves better than a 2/5. I've never been a fan of cropping, or having films presented differently than they were initially shown... Robert Rodriguez has messed with this for his films Planet Terror & Once Upon a Time In Mexico, which are readily available in 1.78:1 transfers on DVD & Blu-ray(PT is 2.35:1 only in Grindhouse). I found that the 1.78:1 transfer for Pete Tong looked rather good & sharp, & did not notice or was bothered by potential cropping. I do recall hearing that the film was actually opened up for many shots as well.

The cropping is extremely obvious

Practically all of the intimate scenes/close-ups with Frankie and Sonja/Beatriz are compromised. Many of the shots from the studio are also compromised (take a look at screencapture #10). The footage with Frankie and his producer, Max Haggar, having fun on the boat with the girls is also off - the flag is cut in half. I don't know if the film has been opened up, perhaps you are right and someone experimented with it, but it is more than obvious that what is on the Blu-ray is a poor PAN/SCAN job that affects its integrity. It is simply very easy to see.

Which shots were pan & scanned? Quite different from cropping. This is a term that rarely comes into play with blus, & one I haven't used since watching TV presentations for The Fan or Cliffhanger(awful use of pan/scan). List a timecode so I can re-watch some shots if you have any examples please...

I don't have time now to run specific time codes where the cropping is extremely easy to notice, but as I mentioned above, take a look at the boat footage - the top is definitely cut off. Then look at the studio footage with the Austrian musicians - again, the cropping is very obvious.

Cropping a film from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1 always produces awkward results. Even when the director does/approves it (a good example is The World's Fastest Indian), there are plenty of scenes that simply do not work. It's All Gone Pete Tong is a very extreme example where a lot does not work because there are entire portions of the film (see above) that look off (see the footage I pointed above).

K... I now don't understand how the top could be cut off... This title needs more of a DVD to Blu screenshot comparison IMO.

During the week, when I am not too busy, I could take a few screenshots where the cropping is most obvious and send them to you. You probably have to see them to understand what I mean.

Have a great week, Rhylliam

That Vengeance trilogy does look one 1 mighty fine box set, must say... Price is so very right for a 4-disc set too.

I really like the packaging and the content (unsurprisingly). You should consider getting it, Rhylliam

Considering it... But have far to much to catch up on, & should also be spending less $ on blu-rays. Now that I've passed the 500 mark, time to calm down haha.
