Release date is not fixed yet; Amazon cautiously alerts that it may come out in 2011 or even 2012.

Nice. Definitely something to keep "my eye on"...

I'm currently reading the books for the first time ever, as well. Loving every minute of it. Painstaking well-written. He created a culture, rich with history. Though I LOVE the films, but these books are just incredible.

Frankly, the theatrical Blu-rays will more than hold me over till there's some sort of "ultimate" version with both versions of the three movies as well as perhaps The Hobbit movies included.

I just want the extended versions of the film in HD. I don't care about the extras. The existing extras are more than enough for me.

Read The Silmarillion next. It's a tough one at first, but some chapters in there are just incredible, like the story of Beren and Luthien.

PS:It was a totally irrevelant reference to the rumoured release of Kubrick's lolita and Barry Lyndon.

The DVDs of the extended editions are already so feature stuffed that adding anything else seems unessesary

I just want each of the extended editions on a single disc. Blu-Ray won the format war for this purpose. New transfers that remove the video problems present of the theatrical edition Blu-Rays. Also the Appendicces in high definition on there own disc.

Do these and Ill be satisfied

I think I would like each movie on TWO discs since they are running between 3-4 hours.Same for Lawrence of Arabia.Two discs for the movie without extras for better PQ&AQ.1 extra BD for xtras would suffice for me.If alot,just put it on SD for all I care,but others are probably more interested in xtras than me.

My sentiments exactly. I can hold off on the EC especially with the possibility that they will contain both the Hobbit movies. However, there will probably be some BS release of the Hobbit movies theatrical realease first, followed by another year for this Grand-Deluxe set.

I have been waiting for the EE's..if they fix up the PQ on FOTR then I'll probably bite. I'm not happy about a bare-bones release though. A shame none of the DVD extras will be ported over. Seems like the DVD EE box set is still the definitive release. That ultimate box set probably won't come out until after The Hobbit.
