BTW, that is totally ridiculous. Both pics have the same exact amount of detail. Last edited by Petyr_Baelish; 06-18-2011 at 09:37 AM. |

That doesn't explain the new colors, but it could certainly explain why Fellowship is the only of the three which was entirely re-graded. Let's speculate even further: add budget constraints, and more importantly time constraints, and you get a new color grading that can't be as meticulous as the original**. Throw a bit of bad taste in the mix, don't forget about Murphy's Law, and suddenly the new Fellowship Blu-ray doesn't seem so improbable * IIRC, the comparisons with an HD TV recording showed that some of the DNR and edge enhancement issues were specific to the theatrical edition's Blu-ray, but that doesn't mean the master wasn't quite poor to begin with. ** I'm sure neither Jackson nor Lesnie can spend as much time on color grading a new Fellowship master as they did back then. Doing what they originally did (grade different parts of the same image individually) in a timely fashion is certainly no small task and would likely require that many of the decisions (and opposed to just most of the work) be delegated. After all, historical accuracy notwithstanding, this presentation is good enough for many/most people. Maybe Jackson and Lesnie liked the new ambiance overall and decided that a a few scenes here and there just weren't worth the effort. What a speculative post I just wrote! But then, at this point, all we can do is notice the new colors and tint; the rest is just speculation anyway… |

What's the problem now? People still think there will be an replacement, although the green tint is the wish of Peter Jackson?! There is NO issue, because the color is supposed to look that way. There is no need to change it once again.
It's now the best release of the EEs, that will ever be buyable. I bet the "Ultimate" Edition will have far more color "improvements" than this release. |

I do wonder whether this press release warrants short piece of news on the front page though. |

![]() Seriously - as I said, I was hoping for simply a better blu-ray quality transfer that was based off the DVD set that everyone has. I always felt that disc set looked very good for DVD. Blu-ray would have made it truly awesome. I dont see what the color changes are for or what the benefit is but this is what we got and we can all either buy it or not buy it. EOM.

Now I can't imagine why in the world they chose to include Portuguese as the only other audio track, but I'm glad they did since my wife's side of the family is from Brazil and I would have been searching for an international version with a Portuguese option. Maybe this will be the version they sell in Brazil and the US, and they'll make a separate Spanish-language version. |

I've debated cancelling my pre-order, but ultimately decided not to. I'm not a big fan of the colour changes - intentional or not - and some of the (now) underexposed shots are even more worrying. I'm of the opinion this was a technical f&*$-up - why change the colours of only the first film? If it was PJ's intention then he's in for a huge backlash when this finally hits store shelves and the greater public (who don't read forums) see what he has done. If they do a disc replacement program then great. If I have to wait a couple of years for the next edition to come out then so be it. But I'll still buy this one in the mean time and put up with the colour changes. Yeah I know that makes me a sucker and WB & EIV (in the UK) are just hoping that most people see it the way I do. At the end of the day I just want the EE's in HD
My Blu-ray wish list: Roman Holiday, Cinema Paradiso (Director's cut), Before Sunrise/Sunset, Punch-drunk love, Remains of the day, The Straight story, Wallace & Gromit: The curse of the were-rabbit, The Abyss, Anatomy of a murder, Team America: World Police, The Odd Couple, The Man who wasn't there, Gods and Monsters, Judgement at Nuremberg
