Where did you hear it was going out of print? I'd like a link to an actual source, because that makes absolutely no sense. They just released it.

It actually does make a little sense to put production of new sets on hold to sell off the GL Movie Cash editions. The Amazon.com price drop is actually in-line with a soon-to-be-expired ticket. It's in-stock at Amazon.com so as long as they time it right and its never unavailable it shouldn't be a problem.

Removing a stupid movie-cash promo is not making the set "out of print." I thought the person who originally posted that the set was going OOP actually meant it was going OOP. Which if that were the case, I'd stand by my statement that it would be stupid and would make no sense.

Thanks. What I meant was that there were quite a few people who may have considered the box set even if they did own much of it already for the updates/upgrades/whatever. But, seeing as the price is too high and the additional content or upgrades are trivial.... its a no go.

Im rather astute though - gotta admit.

Sup guys. Don't know where else to ask this Superman question, so I'll try here. I bought an unopened copy of the original Superman blu ray (this one) at a local pawnshop. When I opened it, there were two disc holders and it only used one.

Here:

Is there suppose to be two discs? or I'm guessing they just reused a two disc case. Thanks.

Thanks. I thought it was missing something, pretty odd. Ah well. I saw Superman Returns blu ray for the same price, $8.95 at that pawnshop so I might pick that up and put it in that slot lol. And use the blu ray case for one of my used blu ray movie that's still in a dvd case.

Well, I finally received my copy of the anthology from the U.K. (Canada Post was on strike for a couple of weeks and my shipment got caught in the backlog of shipments). I haven't watched anything yet, but I can say that I'm a little disappointed that the only disc identifiers are in tiny fineprint along the edge of the disc art. Why couldn't they put each film title on the disc itself? It's a bit off-putting, but I guess I can deal.

Yeah, I bought that one a long time ago and it came in a 2-disc case as well, but it's only one disc.

I got my set a few days ago. Got it for a great price on Ebay brand new factory sealed. This is the Canadian set which is the exact same as the U.S. set except it didn't come with "Green Lantern" movie cash (I didn't care since I'd already seen "Green Lantern" anyway.) I love Superman, and I'm so glad I got this. The movies look and sound fantastic, and its going to take me days to get through all the bonus material. "Superman: The Movie," "Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut," and "Superman Returns" are by far the best. I also go to see "Superman III" and "The Quest For Peace" for the first time. Here's my thoughts on the series:

Superman: The Movie: A classic. One of my all-time favorite films. (5/5)

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut: Despite being a hodge-podge of various footage, I prefer this version to Lester's version. (5/5)

Superman II: Sometimes campy, but still an enjoyable movie. (4/5)

Superman III: Ugh. I saw this for the first time today. I did get a kick out of seeing Annette O'Toole playing Lana Lang instead of Martha Kent like she did on "Smallville." All the scenes with Clark and Lana, and bad Superman were good. But this didn't feel like a Superman movie. It felt like a Richard Pryor movie. If they hadn't focused on him so much, it might have been okay. Next time, I'll just skip the Pryor stuff. (2/5)

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace: I also saw this for the first time today, and dare I say it, it wasn't all that bad. Unlike part 3, it at least felt like a Superman movie. Sure it was cheesy,it was completely unrealistic even by Superman standards, and the special effects were severely lacking, but it was at least somewhat entertaining. Sure it isn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but at least it felt like a Superman movie, and was cheesy fun. (3/5)

Superman Returns: I know I'm in the minority, but this is my personal favorite of the sequels. My one minor nitpick is Kate Bosworth. She's not bad, but I think they could have done better casting. But its a minor nitpick. I personally loved Brandon Routh as Superman. Of course Christopher Reeve is the superior Superman, but Routh makes an admirable Man Of Steel. I've loved this since seeing it in theaters. (5/5)

Warner Bros uses the same disc for multiple countries where English is not the first language. They've just always had them titled that way for the UK, Australia etc.

Yeah, thats about right. I prefer the Lester cut of #2 to the Donner cut if only because I HATE test footage being inserted to films since it just looks WAY out of place. I also cant stand the "earth-spin" at the end of of the Donner cut. Its a repeat of the end of the first film and its cheap and cheesey. Sure, the kiss isnt the best thing either but is better than the damned time-change thing. I mean, why not just keep reversing time everytime something goes amiss? Takes away the whole point, IMO.

#3 sucks. #4 also sucks but thats just my opinion.

Returns is under-rated, IMO. Bosworth doesnt do a good Lios Lane, thats for sure. Shes the only miscast person here. And, Supermans "moping" around for the first half hour of the film doesnt fit his character well. Its not like him and I cant buy into it. Once things get going though, Rought does just fine.

I kind of agree. There are aspects of the Donner cut that I do like. But, since he never really got to finish filming it, it is a pretty patched together job of making the closest thing to his cut that was possible with the resources available. The regular (Lester) cut does feel more like a complete movie by comparison.

That being said, I would love to see some kind of ultimate cut that combines that best aspects of both versions (i.e. I do want the Marlon Brando footage from the Donner cut). That would be awesome.

Yep - I agree on the Brando footage being huge. I'd go for the Donner version if it was a finished product, albeit not liking the earth-spin at the end. But, as it stands - yes, the Lester cut feels and looks more like a finished product and thats big, IMO.

A definitive edition would be sweet.... all the best of each version combined into one. Id buy that!

Regarding the OOP topic, it is most likely the version with the Green Lantern cash that has been discontinued. Or it could be a typo on that website. The set has been out for barely a month, so there's no reason for it to be completely discontinued so quickly (I doubt WB has even turned a profit on the set yet based on estimated advertising and production costs). Of course this will be a limited edition set, but even the 'Ultimate' collection on DVD was still being produced for a good year before it went OOP.

The UK box set has been dropped to 29.93 Pounds on Amazon.co.uk, making it around $44 shipped for all Americans.

Same here, 28 pounds. Amazon's currency converter said $47.01, but xe.com says it's $45.19, and if I remember Amazon's policy correctly the actual charge is determined when the bank does the conversion, so it'll probably be $45. Either way this is a lot cheaper than the $79 asking price at the United States version of Amazon.

Never seen the 3rd and 4th movie so i'm very excited to see them. Hopefully the ship this will get shipped on gets here before mid august.
