S1 and S2 were filmed simultaneously, only their release dates differ.

I'm wondering what is taking so long to Warner to discount this set? The Batman set was heavily discounted after a year.

I'm still waiting... In Canada, the set is $99 everywhere I find it. The Batman set dropped from $99 to $35 faster. With the reboot coming in a year, I'm sure the price will drop (maybe this christmas season or just before the theatrical opening of The Man of Steel).

It appears as if they inserted a CG superman in some scenes where it was completely unnecessary; for example, when he is onboard the plane: why was CG necessary then? Couldn't they film a real life actor for that relatively short sequence? Or, was it the actual actor, who only looked like a CG character because the digital film made him look so waxy?

If I had to do it again, I would not have bothered picking up this set. Superman 1 and the Donnar Cut of 2 are more than worthwhile on their own.

I paid well under $40 for this UK version, but even then, there is precious little that I would consider to be "must have material" in this collection (aside from what's immediately available otherwise).

To each his own, but I have to disagree as the documentary content and animated features alone are absolutely outstanding and top-notch as I started watching them (my UK version arrived on Monday). I will start watching the movies beginning with the theatrical cut of #1 perhaps tonight or this weekend. I am only a fan of the first two, but re-visiting #3 and #4 will be interesting (years since I saw them...and never really saw #4 as I always heard how bad it was).

I have to agree: the extras in this set, from the various cartoons, character docs, moviemaking docs, TV movies, and specials make it incredibly worthwhile and more than make up for the featured films one may find subpar. I bought it for $55 from amazon.UK when it was first released, and that was a bargain then. To be able to get it cheaper is a steal.

You actually have the extended one. The theatrical cut is exclusive to the Anthology.

Thanks. I forgotten about that website. So the anthology release is the only way to own both the theatrical version of Superman 1 and 2 in the U.S then?

Anyone interested in this set can get it for under $35 new from Amazon UK. I've been keeping a close eye on it and it just dropped by several pounds last night. Right now it sits at 20.97 pounds. With shipping, that translated for me to $34.20. I couldn't pass that up.

The Theatrical Version also has some differences in the soundtrack that I believe was remixed for the Extended Edition.
