Why do they have to put a good movie and crappy sequal on the same blu-ray? Arthur is great. Arthur 2: On The Rocks not so good. Maybe it will be two discs, I hope....

I'll be looking forward to this Blu-Ray.

It is the first time that Arthur is being released in Widescreen on Home Video.

I don't mind Arthur 2, not as good as the first film but still worth a watch.

John Gielgud won an Oscar por supporting actor as the butler of Arthur, very deserving award. I also wished they wouldn't have paired the film with the other shame of a sequel.

day 1 purchase for me.....i love the 1st...the 2nd isnt as great as the first but i didnt mind it.

I don't mind pt. 2 on the same disc as much as I dislike that it comes at the expense of extras for the original.

Either way, finally a widescreen transfer

the only extras were a trailer and some written text about the film and cast. Plus the DVD was full frame/pan & scan.

I have seen this film probably over 5 times but never bought it on DVD. Rented it and watched it on TV. I am thrilled that it will get a proper hi def release and will buy

A double Blu Ray disc will be released April 5 with the original "Arthur" and Arthur 2. Not that excited about Arthur 2, but it is only $15 on Amazon and I'lll gadly pay that for Arthur.

That's right up there with What's Up Tiger Lily? and the original The Little Shop of Horrors as one of my most wanted cult films.

It's a great movie.

The current Arthur DVD is one of the worst in regards to PQ in my collection, along with Little Shop of Horrors. I really hope this Blu-ray looks good.

The current DVD of Arthur was released in 1997. It is already a 14 year old disc.

1997 was the year that the DVD format launched. Hopefully the new Widescreen Blu-Ray Transfer will blow away the DVD.

WOW!. Yea, you gotta think ANYTHING is going to look better than what we have right now. Never-the-less, I sure hope some money was put into giving it a good Blu-ray presentation. It's such a universally liked comedy with great performances by all.

According to the listing (and the back of the package), it's a single BD. The loss is apparently no surround-sound track (original DTS-HD MA 1.0, sequel DTS-HD MA 2.0).

Personally, I think AMPAS' music branch should be forced to listen to "Arthur's Theme" and then ordered to repeal the three-songwriter limit for Best Original Song (which they imposed after nearly all the members of Counting Crows were nominated for "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2). It's the only BOS winner with more than three songwriters, and it's obvious which one would have been thrown out: Peter Allen, who only contributed to one line in the whole song. (No, they wouldn't have thrown out Christopher Cross, who sang it and was forgotten shortly thereafter.) Problem is, that line--taken from an unproduced musical he co-wrote with Carole Bayer Sager (then married to the remaining writer, Burt Bacharach)--is the song's most memorable: "When (If) you get caught between the moon and New York City".

Then the good news, presumably, is that this BD won't come from the most recent DVD mastering -- as that mastering happened 14 years ago.

If we're getting a brand new hi-def transfer, we should be in very good shape (not that ARTHUR was a particularly eye-popping film to begin with.)
